Complete specifications relating to the undermentioned applications for Letters Patent have been accepted, and are open to public inspection at this office. Any person may, at any time within two months from the date of this Gazette, give me notice in writing of opposition to the grant of any such patent. Such notice must set forth the particular grounds of objection, and be in duplicate. A fee of 10s. is payable thereon.
The copies of claims and extracts from the specifications and drawings are merely intended to give some further indication of the invention than is disclosed in the title, and the complete specifications and drawings should be referred to for a description of the invention.
No. 25772.—1st April, 1909.—United Shoe Machinery Company, of Paterson, in the State of New Jersey, United States of America, a corporation duly organized under the laws of the said State of New Jersey, carrying on business as Shoe-machinery Manufacturers, and having a place of business at 205 Lincoln Street, Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America (assignees of James Cavanagh, Jun., of Boston aforesaid, Inventor, and Patrick Henry Doherty, of Avon, Norfolk, Massachusetts aforesaid, Commercial Traveller). Improvements in or relating to boots and shoes, and to methods of making them.*
Claims.—(1.) A boot or shoe that comprises an upper the edge of which is lasted in upon the heel end and turned out and stitched down along the remainder of a single sole that is provided at each side with a shoulder, against which shoulders abut the forward ends of the in-turned portion of the upper.

Improvements in air-brakes for railway-trains.
Claims.—(1.) A casing connected to the train-pipe, means movable in said casing by pressure in the train-pipe, a valve in the casing actuated by such means and controlling an opening in the casing from the signal-pipe to the external air, and a spring in the casing acting upon such means in opposition to the train-pipe pressure, whereby an excess pressure in the train-pipe will lift the valve and open communication between the signal-pipe and external air, and thus operate a signal in the signal-pipe.
