In the matter of “The Public Works Act, 1908”; and also of the taking under the said Act by the Gisborne Borough Council of certain land within the Patutahi Road District for the purpose of establishing a quarry.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Gisborne, for and on behalf of the Gisborne Borough Council, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1908,” intend to take by Proclamation the following land, viz.:—

All that piece or parcel of land, situate in the District of Poverty Bay, containing by admeasurement four (4) acres and twenty (20) perches, being part of Section Number Ninety-one (91) of Block VII, Patutahi Survey District, Cook County, within the Patutahi Road District.

A plan of the land is deposited at the office of the Patutahi Road Board, at Patutahi, where the same may be inspected at all reasonable hours.

The work proposed to be executed upon the said land is the establishment of a quarry for quarrying purposes, and the description of the land is as shown on the said plan.

All persons having any objections to the execution of such works or to the taking of such land are hereby required to send such objections in writing to the Borough Council, on or before the third day of April, one thousand nine hundred and ten (1910).

NOTICE is hereby given that at an extraordinary general meeting of the shareholders, duly convened, and held at the registered office of the company, Customhouse Quay, Wellington, on Monday, the 31st day of January, 1910, a special resolution to the following effect was carried:—

“That the company be wound up voluntarily, and that Mr. O. S. WATKINS, of Wellington, Public Accountant, be and is hereby appointed Liquidator for the purpose of such winding up.”

NOTICE is hereby given that at a meeting of shareholders of the Holms’ Patent Couplings Company (Limited), held in the registered office of the company (Esk Street, Invercargill) on Saturday evening, 5th February, 1910, the following resolution was proposed and carried unanimously: “It having been proved to the satisfaction of the shareholders that the company is, by reason of its liabilities, unable to carry on its business, it is hereby resolved that the company be voluntarily wound up, and Mr. T. D. A. MOFFETT appointed Liquidator.”

SCHOOL FOR DEAF-MUTES, SUMNER, NEAR CHRISTCHURCH.

Under the Control and Supervision of the Education Department.

Director: MR. J. E. STEVENS.

FOR Deaf Children of sound intellect. The pupils are taught to use and understand ordinary speech. The full charge for board and education is £40 a year, but less is accepted from parents who cannot afford to pay this amount. In case of necessity admission is free.

By the Education Act, the education of deaf children between the ages of 7 and 16 is made compulsory. A child is, as a rule, best fitted to begin the school course at about the age of 6, but advice should be obtained as soon as any sign of deafness is observed.

The following classes of deaf children are admitted:—

  1. Children born deaf, or who have lost their hearing before learning to speak.

  2. Children who can hear a little, but are too deaf to be taught in an ordinary school.

  3. Children who have lost their hearing after having learned to speak.

Parents and other persons acquainted with such cases above the age of 4 are invited to communicate with the Director, or with

NOTICE is hereby given that the NORTH BRUNNER COAL COMPANY (LIMITED), incorporated in England, has removed its registered office or principal place of business in New Zealand from Mackay Street, Greymouth, to Number 224, Hereford Street, Christchurch, where legal process of any kind may be served upon it and notices of any kind may be addressed or delivered.
