Special Order made by the Council of the Borough of Queenstown.

THE following special order, made by the Queenstown Borough Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.”

QUEENSTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Special Order.—Re Acetylene-gas Works.
In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by ‘‘ The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” and its amendment, the Queenstown Borough Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and sinking fund and other charges on a loan of £1,250 (an application to be made to the Minister of Finance for a Government guarantee of the loan, and the said Council to establish, and at all times during the currency of the loan maintain, a sinking fund in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and its amendment), authorised to be raised by the Queenstown Borough Council, under the abovementioned Act, by debentures in accordance with the said Act and its amendment, the Council to issue twenty-five debentures of £50 each, and every such debenture to be payable, in Queenstown, Otago, on the expiration of thirty-three years after the issue thereof, with interest on every such debenture at the rate of £4 10s. per centum per annum, payable, in Queenstown aforesaid, half-yearly on the 1st day of February and the 1st day of August in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of thirtythree years, or until the loan is fully paid off, for the construction of acetylene-gas works in and for the Borough of Queenstown, and to light the roads, streets, and public places of the said borough with the said gas, and supply gas to the inhabitants thereof, and to acquire land and erect buildings within or without the said borough, and procure and construct all machinery, pipes, plant, and all other things necessary for establishing municipal acetylene-gas works, and all and everything relating or incidental thereto respectively, and to pay out of the loan all preliminary expenses, and all costs of raising the loan, and the first year’s interest of the loan during the construction of the said works, the said Queenstown Borough Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 5d. in the pound on the rateable value of all rateable property in the whole of the Borough of Queenstown, as defined by “ The Municipal Corporations Act, 1908”; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of September in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of thirty-three years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
The above special order was duly passed by the Queenstown Borough Council at a special meeting held on Thursday, the 13th day of January, 1910, at 8 o’clock p.m., at the Library in Queenstown, and was duly confirmed by the said Council at a special meeting held by it on Thursday, the 17th day of February, 1910, at 8 o’clock p.m., at the Library in Queenstown.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Tamaki West Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.”

TAMAKI WEST ROAD DISTRICT.
I HEREBY give notice that, in accordance with “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” and the amendments thereof, a poll of the ratepayers of the Tamaki West Road District was taken on Saturday, the 5th day of February, 1910, on the proposal to borrow a sum not exceeding £30,000 for the purpose of providing the necessary funds for construction of a tramway from the boundary of the Remuera Road District to St. Heliers Bay, and the doing of such things as may be necessary for carrying out the undertaking connected with such tramway, and that the result of such poll was as follows: In favour of the proposal, 135; against the proposal, 48; informal votes, 2.
I therefore declare that the said proposal was carried.

Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of a Road through Otioro and Te Topuni E Blocks, Auckland Land District.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of “The Public Works Act, 1908,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was duly taken and laid off through the lands specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 9th day of May, 1909.

BEACON, MANUKAU HARBOUR, DISPLACED.

Wellington, N.Z., 21st February, 1910.
THE Harbourmaster at Manukau has advised the Department that the red beacon off the Railway Wharf, in Manukau Harbour, has collapsed.
Pending the erection of a new beacon a red buoy has been laid to mark the site.
Charts, &c., affected: Admiralty Chart No. 2726; “New Zealand Pilot,” eighth edition, 1908, Chap. vii, page 218.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Grocers’, Drapers’, Tobacconists’, Chemists’, Bootmakers’, Jewellers’, Saddlers’, and Tailors’ Shops in the County of Kaikoura under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of all the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of grocer, draper, tobacconist, chemist, bootmaker, jeweller, saddler, and tailor in the County of Kaikoura, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the county shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, 6 p.m.; Tuesdays, 6 p.m.; Wednesdays, 1 p.m.; Thursdays, 6 p.m.; Fridays, 6 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 p.m.: And whereas the Kaikoura County Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades mentioned within the County of Kaikoura:
Now, therefore, I, James Carroll, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that, from and after the 28th day of February, 1910, all such shops in the County of Kaikoura shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.
