Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twentieth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and eleven; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Weighted with £100, valuation for improvements consisting of grassing, fencing, and old buildings out of repair.
Altitude, about 600 ft. above sea-level. Nearly level land, all cleared and grassed, but now partly overgrown with fern, scrub, and rushes. Soil mostly of first-class quality, on clay subsoil; well watered by stream. Situated close to Rama-rama Railway-station, which is about twenty-five miles from Whangarei by rail.

WAITOMO COUNTY.—PIRONGIA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, 150 ft. to 280 ft. above sea-level. Hill country, covered with fern and manuka. Soil of a light friable nature, of very fair quality, on sandstone formation; fairly well watered by small stream. Fronts main coach-road Pirongia to Kawhia, about five miles from Pirongia.

Level and undulating country, covered with fern, tutu, and manuka. Soil of a light nature and medium quality, on sandstone formation; well watered. Situated about sixteen miles from Kihikini by formed road.

Disallowing By-laws made by the Auckland Harbour Board.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

WHEREAS it is enacted by the fiftieth section of the Harbours Act, 1908, that, within six months after the receipt of a copy of any by-law made by a Harbour Board has been acknowledged by the Minister, the Governor may disallow the same or any part thereof:
And whereas certain by-laws made by the Auckland Harbour Board were adopted by the Board at a meeting held on the twenty-fifth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and ten, and the receipt thereof was acknowledged by the Minister on the twenty-fourth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and ten:
And whereas it is desirable to disallow such by-laws:
Now, therefore, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the hereinbefore-recited power and authority, doth hereby disallow the said by-laws, that is to say, the following, viz.:

  1. The owner of each steam or other ferry-boat plying for hire at any wharf within the harbour for the carriage of passengers shall provide and maintain upon such boat separate adequate and cleanly privy accommodation for each sex.
  2. The owner of each steam or other ferry-boat plying for hire at any wharf within the harbour shall provide and maintain upon such boat sufficient sitting-accommodation in the cabins and on the decks thereof for the purpose of the reasonable requirements of passengers ordinarily travelling thereon on the routes on which such boat may be engaged.
  3. The owner of each steam or other ferry-boat plying for hire at any wharf in the harbour for the carriage of passengers shall provide and maintain adequate ventilation in the cabins of such boat.
  4. The owner of each steam or other ferry-boat plying for hire at any wharf within the harbour for the carriage of passengers shall keep the cabins and deck of such boat clean, and shall prevent, by means of awnings or other sufficient coverings, smuts or material from the funnel from falling on the passengers on such boat.
