Altitude, from 600 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. Steep to undulating country; about 150 acres fern and scrub, balance light mixed forest comprising tawa, rewarewa, mapau, mako-mako, and manuka, with thick undergrowth of scrub. Soil of good quality, of a sandy nature, on decomposed-pumice formation; well watered. Situated on Pikowai–Rotoma Road, about thirteen miles from Matata by formed road.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-second day of November, one thousand nine hundred and ten.

Opening Land in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.


ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-third day of January, one thousand nine hundred and eleven; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Opening Lands in Taranaki Land District for Sale or Selection.


ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the nineteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and ten; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Situated on the Whangamomona Road. Access is from Whangamomona, which is about eight miles and three-quarters distant—three miles and a half by dray-road, and the remainder by 6 ft. track past section. Comprises fairly steep country at the back, but easier on frontage. The soil is of fair quality, on a papa formation. The forest is heavy, consisting of tawa, rata, tow hai, rimu, with birch on high ridges, and a heavy undergrowth. Well watered.

Situated on the Tirohanga Road. Access is from Whangamomona, which is about fifteen miles distant—three miles and a half by dray-road, ten miles by track, and the balance unformed road. Comprises steep hillsides flattening off towards streams, with fairly good ridges. The formation of the section is sandstone and papa. The forest is fairly heavy, and consists of tow hai, tawa, binau, &c., with a dense undergrowth. Well watered.

Situated on the Okara Road. Access is from Whangamomona, which is about seventeen miles and three-quarters distant—three miles and a half by dray-road, thirteen miles by formed track, and the remainder by unformed road. Comprises medium to rough country, with high ridges and fairly steep spurs. The soil is of fairly good quality, on a papa formation. The forest is heavy, consisting of tawa, rata, rimu, &c., with a heavy undergrowth. Well watered.

Situated on the Tirohanga Road. Access is from Whangamomona, which is about fifteen miles distant—three miles and a half by dray-road, ten miles by formed track, and remainder by unformed road. Comprises steep spurs along the frontage, with better country towards the back. There is sufficient easy ground for homestead site. The soil is of fair quality, on a sandstone and papa formation. The forest is heavy, consisting of tawa, rata, tow hai, rimu, &c., with a heavy undergrowth. Well watered.

Clifton County.—Upper Waitara Survey District.

Situated on the May Road. Access is from Uruti, which is about seven miles and a half distant, four miles of which is formed dray-road, the balance being formed track. Comprises easy to rough slopes and ridges, with a small portion of undulating country at the north end. The soil is of good quality, on a papa and sandstone formation. The forest is fairly heavy, consisting of tawa, rata, rimu, tow hai, &c., with a medium undergrowth. Well watered.
