Run 223K: Open pastoral country, at an elevation of 1,100 ft. to 4,000 ft. above sea-level. An area of about 800 acres is flat and undulating, and is capable of being cultivated; the remaining area of 3,010 acres comprises some good ridges, well grassed along the foothills, but bare on the tops. There is permanent water in Chatto Creek and several of its tributaries, besides a number of water-races. The distance to Omakau Railway-station is about five miles by a road that is formed for three miles from the station. The valuation for fencing is £70 19s. 6d., made up as follows: Half boundary with Pastoral Run 238N, 102 chains at 4s. per chain, £20 8s.; half boundary with Small Grazing-run 223O, 107 chains at 4s. 6d. per chain, £24 1s. 6d.; half boundary with homestead part of Small Grazing-run 223O, 18 chains at 3s. per chain, £2 14s.; subdivisional fencing, 52 chains at 3s. per chain, £7 16s.; subdivisional fencing, 80 chains at 4s. per chain, £16.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned small grazing-runs are open for lease, and applications will be received at this office up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, the 23rd day of February, 1910, under the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”

Possession will be given on 1st March, 1910, subject, however, to the right of the present pastoral licensee to occupy the country up to 31st March, 1910, on condition that he pays the incoming tenants the proportion of rent for the month of March, 1910.
DESCRIPTIONS OF RUNS.
Runs 308D, 308E, and 353E: Runs 308D and 308E have a frontage to the Taieri River, and the Linnburn runs through No. 308D. The whole area consists of open, broken, pastoral country, the altitude of Nos. 308D and 308E being from 1,300 ft. to 1,800 ft. above sea-level, and that of No. 353E from 1,900 ft. to 2,900 ft. There is an area of about 600 acres of ploughable land of inferior quality on No. 308D, an area of about 200 acres of fairly good ploughable land in the south-east corner of No. 308E, while the whole of No. 353E is summer country only. Patearoa Post-office is distant six or seven miles from Nos. 308D and 308E, and No. 353E is about ten miles further away. The valuation for fencing is £212 16s., made up as follows:—On Run 308D: Internal fence near Taieri River, 10 chains at 6s. per chain, £3; fence near wool-shed (not on line), 83 chains at 4s. per chain, £16 12s. On Run 308E: Fence from boundary of No. 308D near temporary road and road to river, 130 chains at 4s. per chain, £26; paddock-fencing in south-east corner, 144 chains at 6s. per chain, £43 4s. On Run 353E: West boundary-fencing with Run 199A (half length), 100 chains at 6s. per chain, £30; south-east boundary-fencing with Run 353B (half length), 205 chains at 6s. per chain, £61 10s.; north-east boundary-fencing with Run 353D (half length), 95 chains at 5s. per chain, £23 15s.; internal fencing near Taieri River, 50 chains at 3s. 6d. per chain, £8 15s.
Runs 308F and 353G: Open, broken, pastoral country, the altitude of No. 308F being from 1,300 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level, and that of No. 353G from 2,600 ft. to 3,000 ft. Run 308F contains about 300 acres of fairly good ploughable land towards the southern end, but the whole of No. 353G is summer country only. Run 308F has a long frontage to the Taieri River, and is distant six miles from Patearoa and a mile and a half from Paerau Post-office; Run 353G is about twelve miles further away. The valuation for fencing is £199 4s., made up as follows:—On Run 308F: Fence near road and yards (off boundary), 420 chains at 3s. 6d. per chain, £73 10s. On Run 353G: North-west boundary-fencing with Run 262 (half length), 275 chains at 6s. per chain, £82 10s.; north-east boundary-fencing with Run 261G (half length), 44 chains at 6s. per chain, £13 4s.; south-west boundary-fencing with Run 199A (half length), 100 chains at 6s. per chain, £30.
Runs 308G and 353F: Open, broken, pastoral country, the altitude of No. 308G being from 1,800 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level, and that of No. 353F about 2,500 ft. above sea-level. Run 308G contains about 300 acres of fairly good ploughable land at the south-eastern end; the whole of Run 353F is summer country only. Run 308G has a small frontage to the Taieri River, and is distant half a mile from Paerau Post-office; No. 353F is about six miles further away. The valuation for improvements is £324 13s., made up as follows:— On Run 308G: Blackball Road fence (not on boundary), 186 chains at 4s. 6d. per chain, £41 17s.; paddock-fencing near Styx, 170 chains at 6s. per chain, £51; boundary-fence with Section 4 (half length), 61 chains at 10s. per chain, £30 10s.; Serpentine Road fence (not on boundary), 74 chains at 4s. 6d. per chain, £16 13s.; boundary-fence with Run 308H (half length), 151 chains at 6s. per chain, £45 6s. On Run 353F: North-east boundary-fencing with Run 308C (half length), 123 chains at 4s. per chain, £24 12s.; north-east boundary-fencing with Run 308K (half length), 102 chains at 5s. per chain, £25 10s.; internal fence from hut in a northerly direction, 275 chains at 4s. per chain, £55; internal fence from hut in a north-easterly direction, 145 chains at 3s. per chain, £21 15s.; stone hut, £12 10s.
Run 308H: Open, broken, pastoral country, with about 500 acres of ploughable land. Has a frontage to the Taieri River. Altitude, 1,800 ft. to 2,000 ft. The distance to Paerau Post-office is four miles. The valuation for fencing is £83 18s., made up as follows: Boundary-fence with Run 308G (half length), 151 chains at 6s. per chain, £45 6s.; Serpentine Road fence (not on boundary), 92 chains at 3s. 6d. per chain, £16 2s.; boundary-fence with Run 308I (half length), 75 chains at 6s. per chain, £22 10s.
Run 308I: The north-west portion of this run above the road is open, broken, pastoral land, part of it being summer country only. The remainder (about 1,000 acres) is flat, and a large area is ploughable land; about 160 acres is swampy. Good cattle-country. Can be greatly improved by draining and tilling. This run has a good frontage to the Taieri River, and the Serpentine Creek runs through it. Altitude, 1,800 ft. to 2,500 ft. The distance to Paerau Post-office is five miles. The valuation for fencing is £110 13s. 6d., made up as follows: Fencing near Serpentine Road (not on boundary), 66 chains at 3s. 6d. per chain, £11 11s.; boundary-fencing with Run 308H (half length), 75 chains at 6s. per chain, £22 10s.; internal fence from gate to Loganburn Ford, 170 chains at 6s. 6d. per chain, £55 5s.; fence above road (not on boundary), 95 chains at 4s. 6d. per chain, £21 7s. 6d.
Run 308J: Similar to Run 308I, with about 800 acres of flat land. The valuation for fencing is £73 2s. 6d., made up as follows: Fence along Serpentine Road (not on boundary), 44 chains at 3s. 6d. per chain, £7 14s.; boundary-fence with Run 308C (half length), 43 chains at 4s. 6d. per chain, £9 13s. 6d.; internal fence above road, 135 chains at 5s. per chain, £33 15s.; internal fence below road, 80 chains at 5s. 6d. per chain, £22.
Run 308K: Similar to Run 308I, with about 1,000 acres of flat land. The valuation for fencing is £75 14s., made up as follows: North-west boundary-fence with Run 308C (half length), 27 chains at 4s. 6d. per chain, £6 1s. 6d.; south-west boundary-fence with Run 353F (half length), 102 chains at 5s. per chain, £25 10s.; fence above road, 105 chains at 5s. per chain, £26 5s.; south-west boundary-fence with Run 353D (half length), 55 chains at 6s. 6d. per chain, £17 17s. 6d.
Run 353D: Open, broken, pastoral country, with fairly good soil along the Taieri River and on the ploughable slopes. About 500 acres can be ploughed. Altitude, 1,850 ft. to 2,200 ft. The distance to Paerau Post-office is about nine miles. The valuation for improvements is £68 7s. 6d., made up as follows: Boundary-fence with Run 308K (half length), 55 chains at 6s. 6d. per chain, £17 17s. 6d.; west boundary-fence with Run 353E (half length), 95 chains at 5s. per chain, £23 15s.; internal fence, including sheep-yards, 110 chains at 3s. 6d. per chain, £19 5s.; iron hut, £7 10s.
