DESCRIPTIONS OF RUNS.
Run 223M: Open pastoral country, at an elevation varying from 1,400 ft. to 5,000 ft. above sea-level. There is an area of about 1,000 acres of flat land, which is capable of being cultivated. Between the flat land and the snow-line fence is an area of 4,600 acres, comprising good ridges, which lie well to the sun. The area above the snow-line fence (1,800 acres) is good summer country. There is permanent water in Lauder Creek. The distance to Lauder Railway-station is six miles by a good dray-road. The valuation for fencing is £165 12s., made up as follows: Half boundary along Lauder Creek, 260 chains at 5s. 6d. per chain, £71 10s.; half mountain-top boundary, 63 chains at 5s. per chain, £15 15s.; half part of boundary with Small Grazing-run 223L, 70 chains at 4s. per chain, £14; south road-line boundary, 94 chains at 6s. 6d. per chain, £30 11s.; subdivisional fencing (snow-line), 124 chains at 4s. per chain, £24 16s.; subdivisional fencing, 60 chains at 3s. per chain, £9.
Run 223L: Open pastoral country, at an elevation of 1,400 ft. to 5,000 ft. above sea-level. An area of about 300 acres is undulating and flat. The faces falling into Thomson’s Creek are steep and precipitous and bare. The back portion of the run, comprising the valley of Begg’s Creek, is good summer country, and is fairly well grassed with tussock. There is a permanent water-supply in Begg’s Creek and in Thomson’s Creek. The distance to Lauder Railway-station is about seven miles by a good road. The valuation for fencing is £126 15s., made up as follows: Half mountain-top boundary, 115 chains at 5s. per chain, £28 15s.; half part of boundary with Small Grazing-run 223N, 85 chains at 4s. per chain, £17; half part of boundary with Small Grazing-run 223O, 72 chains at 3s. per chain, £17 10s.; half part of boundary with Small Grazing-run 223M, 70 chains at 4s. per chain, £14; subdivisional fencing (snow-line), 134 chains at 4s. per chain, £26 16s.; subdivisional fencing, 130 chains at 3s. per chain, £19 10s.; all part of boundary with mining reserve, 66 chains at 3s. per chain, £9 18s.
Run 223N: This run comprises two areas. The first is an area of 3,604 acres of open pastoral country, at an elevation between 2,000 ft. and 4,000 ft. above sea-level, being portion of the valley of Thomson’s Creek. About half the area is good tussock spurs and ridges, lying well to the sun. The whole is well watered by Thomson’s Creek, and is ring-fenced. Matakauui Township is distant five miles by a pack-track, and thence seven miles by a good dray-road to Omakau Railway-station. The second area is a homestead-site, containing 986 acres of undulating and flat land, most of which is capable of being cultivated. The soil is light, and the only water-supply is a race which traverses the area. The distance to Omakau Railway-station is three miles by a good road. The valuation for fencing is £126 6s., made up as follows: Half mountain-top boundary, 100 chains at 5s. per chain, £25; half boundary with Small Grazing-run 223L, 85 chains at 4s. per chain, £17; half boundary with Small Grazing-run 223O, 128 chains at 4s. per chain, £25 12s.; half boundary with Pastoral Run 238N, 102 chains at 4s. per chain, £20 8s.; half south-eastern boundary of the homestead-site, 34 chains (netted) at 15s. per chain, £25 10s.; subdivisional fencing on homestead-site, 64 chains at 4s. per chain, £12 16s.
Run 223O: Open pastoral country, at an elevation of 1,100 ft. to 3,800 ft. above sea-level. An area of about 800 acres is flat and undulating, and capable of being cultivated; the remaining area of 3,530 acres consists of good tussock spurs and ridges, well grassed along the foothills. There is permanent water in Thomson’s Creek on the eastern boundary and in Chatto Creek on the western side; in addition there are several small creeks and water-races. The distance to Omakau Railway-station is about five miles by a road that is formed for three miles from the station. The valuation for fencing is £73 13s. 6d., made up as follows: Half boundary with Small Grazing-run 223N, 128 chains at 4s. per chain, £25 12s.; half boundary with Small Grazing-run 223K, 107 chains at 4s. 6d. per chain, £24 1s. 6d.; half part of
