No. 26689.—7th October, 1909.—CHARLES WESLEY NANCE, of 18 Bridge Street, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Engineer. A self-contained power-generator.

Extract from Specification.—This invention relates to a machine for generating, maintaining, and transmitting power by means of fluid-pressure applied alternately to a pair of inverted cylinders floating in stationary cylindrical containers, the cylinders being made to rise and fall as the volume of fluid in the containers is either increased or diminished by the intermittent opening and closing of cistern-valves operated by tubular levers having mercurial counterpoises, which move in unison which the cylinders as they rise or fall. Each cylinder is harnessed to a pair of loose sheave-wheels upon shafting for operating proximate ratchet-wheels keyed to the same shafting, and on which is a spur-wheel in gear with a compound train of gearing used to transmit motion to a pair of fly-wheels keyed to shafting running in antifriction roller-bearings. The bearings throughout are preferably of the antifriction kind. The fluid discharged from the containers is again raised by means of a rotary pump operated by the machine to the storage-cistern, to be reused. It has been ascertained in the operation of such a machine that the initial lifting-power of the floating cylinders will not only start it moving, but that a surplus supply of energy is made available in the running of dynamos for the generation of electricity, and in that respect it is serviceable as a cheap motive power.

[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place of the claims.]
