Maori Land, Public Works, Customs, Rating Act




or partial alienation of flax and other indigenous usufructs
upon Native lands has been executed prior to the passing of
the said Act, any party thereto may apply to the Maori
Land Board of the district in which such lands are situate,
within two months of the passing of the said Act, for its
approval of such alienation :
And whereas on the twentieth day of January, one thou-
sand nine hundred and eight, application was made to the
Aotea District Maori Land Board for its approval of an
alienation under license to cut flax, dated the thirty-first day
of December, one thousand nine hundred and six, from
Himu Materoa and others to Ralph Lullen Nattrass and
Luke Nelson Nattrass, and transferred by the said Ralph
Lullen Nattrass and Luke Nelson Nattrass to the Karioi
Flax Company (Limited), authorising the licensees to cut
flax on part of the block of Native land known as Rangi-
waea 4rl6 No 2 for the term of twenty-one years from the
thirty-first day of December, one thousand nine hundred
and six, at the royalty rates and subject to the conditions in
the said license expressed:
And whereas, after due inquiry, the said Board has re-
ported to the Native Minister that such alienation should
be permitted, subject to the following modifications, that is
to say : (1) That the flax-cutting rights be limited to an
area of eight hundred and one acres, to be defined by par-
tition; (2) that the royalties to be paid be at the rate of
fifteen pounds per annum for the right to cut flax, with a
further payment of four shillings per ton on all green flax
cut; (3) that all royalties be paid to the Native owners:
And whereas the Native Minister has approved such
report and referred the same to the Governor in Council, as
required by the said Act:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers
conferred on him by the above-in-part-recited Act, His
Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand,
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby authorise the
said Aotea District Maori Land Board to approve, by
minute indorsed thereon, of the said license ordering such
alienation before mentioned, modified in accordance with
the report of the said Aotea District Maori Land Board as
hereinbefore mentioned.

Consenting to Lands being taken for a Road through Native
Land.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this second
day of February, 1909.
Present:
His Excellency THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by section ninety-four of "The Public
Works Act, 1908," it is enacted that there shall not
be taken any land occupied by any pa, village, or cultiva-
tion, or any buildings, gardens, orchards, plantations, or
any burial or ornamental grounds, without the previous
consent of the Governor in Council:
And whereas a Warrant has been issued for the taking
and laying-off of a road from and out of the land specified
in the Schedule hereto, and it is necessary that the said
road should pass through land occupied by a Native cultiva-
tion:
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by
"The Public Works Act, 1908," and of all other powers
enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor of
the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
Dominion, doth hereby consent to the taking, under the
authority of section ninety-three of the said Act, of so much
of the land occupied by the said cultivation within the land
described in the Schedule hereto as is required for the pur-
poses of the said road.

Classification of Ammonal Explosives upon Importation into
New Zealand.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this second
day of February, 1909.
Present:
His Excellency THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by " The.
Explosive and Dangerous Goods Act, 1908,” and of all
other powers and authorities enabling him in this behalf,
His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New
Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby order
that the explosives known as "Ammonal Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4,
and 5,” and “Grain-ammonal,” shall, for the purposes of
importation into New Zealand, be classified as hereafter
specified under the respective Schedules and classes of the
regulations under the Explosives Acts, made by Order in
Council dated the twenty-fourth day of April, one thousand
nine hundred and seven, and gazetted on the ninth day of
May, one thousand nine hundred and seven, and shall
be deemed to form part of such Schedules and classes,
namely:-
FIRST SCHEDULE.
CLASS 2.-NITRATE-MIXTURE.
AMMONAL Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 5, and grain-ammonal, con-
sisting of-
Nitrate of ammonium
Metallic aluminium In varying percentages.

CLASS 3, DIVISION 2.-NITRO-COMPOUNDS.

Prohibiting the Importation of Concentrated Fluid Prepara-
tions of Opium.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this second
day of February, 1909.

His Excellency THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred by
section ninety-three of "The Customs Law Act, 1908,”
and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in this
behalf, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the
Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion,
do hereby prohibit the importation into New Zealand of any
fluid preparation of opium containing a greater quantity of
extractive matter than tincture of opium prepared according
to the Pharmacopœia of the United States of America.

it is expedient to extend the time for preparing the said roll,
as hereinafter mentioned:
