THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Marine Board, Hobart, Tasmania, is published for general information.

TASMANIA.

Notice is hereby given that a beacon 30 ft. high, painted white, has been erected on the west end of Sterile Island, Actaeon Group, D’Entrecasteaux Channel. Top of beacon 55 ft. above high water.

Description of beacon: Truncated square pyramid, 25 ft. high, surmounted by post 5 ft., with horizontal slats.

Chart affected: No. 960.

Notice to Mariners No. 80 of 1909.

BLUFF HARBOUR LEADING-LIGHTS.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 4th October, 1909.

THE Bluff Harbour Board have notified that, on and after the 1st November, 1909, the colour of the rear green light on the middle bank in Bluff Harbour will be changed to white in order that the positions of the lights may be better defined to shipmasters entering the harbour.

Charts, &c., affected: Admiralty Charts Nos. 2540 and 2553, and Plan 3484; “New Zealand Pilot,” eighth edition, 1908, Chap. ix, page 272; “New Zealand Nautical Almanac,” 1909, pages 204 and 308.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Booksellers’ and Stationers’ Shops in the Borough of Wanganui under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the booksellers’ and stationers’ shops, or vendors of books and stationery, in the Borough of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 6.15 p.m., and Saturdays at 9.30 p.m., except for the period of seven days prior to the 24th December in each year, when the closing-hour may be extended till 9 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: And whereas the Wanganui Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the booksellers’ and stationers’ shops, or vendors of books and stationery, in the Borough of Wanganui:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that, from and after the 11th day of October, 1909, all such shops in the Borough of Wanganui shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the fancy-goods shops, or vendors of fancy goods, in the Borough of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 6.15 p.m., and Saturdays at 9.30 p.m., except for the period of seven days prior to the 24th December in each year, when the closing-hour may be extended till 9 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: And whereas the Wanganui Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the fancy-goods shops, or vendors of fancy goods, in the Borough of Wanganui:

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Booksellers’, Stationers’, Fancy-goods, and Toy-dealers’ Shops in the Borough of Ashburton under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops trading as booksellers, stationers, fancy goods, and toy-dealers in the Borough of Ashburton, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m.; Thursdays at 1 p.m.; and Saturdays at 10 p.m.; excepting the month of December in each year, and during such month the closing-time shall be left to the discretion of the traders interested: And whereas the Ashburton Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops trading as booksellers, stationers, fancy goods, and toy-dealers in the Borough of Ashburton:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that, from and after the 11th day of October, 1909, all such shops in the Borough of Ashburton shall be closed in accordance with the above-mentioned requisition.

Forbidding Money-order and Postal Correspondence for H. Sinclair and Company, Sydney.

THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand having reasonable ground for supposing that the firm whose name and address are shown in the Schedule hereunder is engaged in advertising the treatment of diseases of the sexual organs, it is hereby ordered, under section 28 of “The Post and Telegraph Act, 1908,” that no money-order in favour of the said firm shall be issued, and that no postal packet addressed to the said firm (either by its own or any fictitious or assumed name), or to such address without a name, shall be either registered, forwarded, or delivered by the Post Office of New Zealand.

Notice of Intention to take Land in the Township of Motueka for a Police-station.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1908,” to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a police-station at Motueka, and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the Post-office at Motueka, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works, Wellington.
