Pastoral Runs in Canterbury Land District for License by Public Auction.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned pastoral runs will be offered for license by public auction as hereinafter specified, under the provisions of Part VI of “The Land Act, 1908.”

LOCALITY AND DESCRIPTION.

Run No. 20, Rogerson Station, Amuri County: Situated about three miles north-westward from Hanmer Springs, in the upper watershed of the Rogerson River; hilly and mountainous country, varying in elevation between about 1,800 ft. and 5,500 ft. above sea-level. Rough southerly faces, with native vegetation and live and dead bush.

The improvements consist of dwellinghouse, woolshed, yards, dip, plantation, and fencing; total estimated value, about £430.

Run No. 180, Glenthorne Station, Selwyn County: Situated in the forks of the Wilberforce and Harper Rivers, with a frontage of about twelve miles to the former and eight miles to the latter. The distance from Glentunnel Railway-station is about forty miles, and from Springfield Railway-station via Lake Coleridge about thirty-five miles. High pastoral country, with a minimum elevation of about 2,000 ft. above sea-level.

The improvements consist of about twenty-two miles of wire fencing, half a mile of drain, cattle and sheep yards; total estimated value, about £1,055.

Run No. 127, Manuka Point Station, Selwyn County: Situated in the forks of the Rakaia and Mathias Rivers, about forty-six miles north-westward from Glentunnel Railway-station. River-flats and high, rocky, mountainous country, rising to the summit of the Southern Alps, the altitude varying from about 2,100 ft. to 7,500 ft. above sea-level.

The improvements consist of about eleven miles of internal wire fencing; estimated value, about £550.

Runs Nos. 181 and 221, Mount Algidus and Wilberforce Stations, Selwyn County: Situated in the forks of the Wilberforce, Rakaia, and Mathias Rivers, about forty miles from Glentunnel Railway-station. Principally mountainous country, rising from a minimum elevation of about 1,500 ft. to a height of about 7,000 ft. above sea-level, and embracing the eastern slopes of the Southern Alps, the Rolleston Range, and spurs branching from them. The southern portion of Run No. 181 comprises good pastoral country, and there are grazing-flats along the rivers.

The improvements consist of about nineteen miles of internal wire fencing; estimated value, about £950.

Runs Nos. 182 and 183, the Spit and Waikoka Stations, Akaroa County: Situated on the spit between Lake Ellesmere and the sea, embracing the sea frontage from near Birdling’s Flat Railway-station to near Taumutu, a distance of about fifteen miles. The area comprises stony sandy soil or shingle, and sand wastes, with tussock and other native grasses growing in places. There is no permanent water on these runs.

There are no improvements on Run No. 182. On Run No. 183 there is about a mile and a half of boundary-fencing; estimated value, about £120.

Run No. 103, Springburn Station, Ashburton County: Situated on the south-eastern slopes of Mount Somers, about four miles from Springburn Railway-station. The upper portion is rough, broken, rocky country, but the lower slopes are fairly well grassed, and easy of access. The run is bounded on three sides by forest, and intersected by deep gullies covered with birch forest. Altitude, from 2,000 ft. to 3,000 ft. above sea-level.

The improvements consist of about 22 chains of boundary-fencing; estimated value, about £15.

Run No. 203, part of Clent Hills Station, Ashburton County: Situated about sixteen miles from Mount Somers Railway-station, up the south branch of the Ashburton River. The eastern portion is flat, with swamp near the “Maori Lakes”; the western portion consists of low hills.

There are no improvements on this run.

Run No. 3, part of Mount Peel Station, Geraldine County: Situated on the eastern slopes of Little Mount Peel, about sixteen miles from Geraldine, and fifteen miles up the Rangitata Valley from South Rangitata Railway-station; chiefly high broken tussock and snow-grass country, intersected by deep gullies, with a considerable amount of forest and scrub.

The improvements consist of about 216 chains wire boundary and internal fencing, and marking-yards; estimated value, about £130.

Run No. 4A, part of Peel Forest Station, Geraldine County: Situated on the southern slopes of Little Mount Peel, in the Orari Gorge, about fifteen miles from Geraldine. Broken but good pastoral country; some light bush and scrub in the gullies.

The improvements consist of wire boundary-fencing; estimated value, about £35.

Run No. 4B, part of Peel Forest Station, Geraldine County: Situated at the commencement of the Orari Gorge, about fifteen miles from Geraldine. Broken but good pastoral country; some light bush and scrub in the gullies.

The improvements consist of about 220 chains wire boundary and internal fencing and yards; estimated value, about £90.

Run No. 4C, part of Peel Forest Station, Geraldine County: Situated on the southern slopes of Little Mount Peel, about fourteen miles from Geraldine; good pastoral country.

The improvements consist of boundary-fencing, hut, and yards; estimated value, about £150.

Run No. 68, Black Forest Station, Waimate: Situated on the east bank of the Waitaki River about four miles below the junction of the Tekapo River, and about forty-seven miles south-westward via Burke’s Pass from Fairlie Railway-station. Pastoral country, comprising about 4,000 acres of flat adjoining the Waitaki River, with a minimum elevation of about 1,100 ft., and thence rising to a maximum elevation of 6,266 ft. on the south-eastern boundary. The run generally is well grassed and watered.

The improvements consist of about twenty-eight miles of boundary and internal fencing; estimated value, about £1,400.

Runs Nos. 90, 91, and 207, Tasman Island Station, Mackenzie County: Runs Nos. 90 and 91 consist of islands in the Tasman River, and Run No. 207 of a narrow strip of land between the Braemar Station freehold and the east bank of the Tasman River, situated about twenty miles from Lake Tekapo Bridge and Hotel. The large island consists principally of soft swamp; the small island and Run No. 207 consists of fair grazing-country.

Possession will be given on the 1st March, 1910.

The information given above as to the valuation of improvements on the several runs is published for the information of intending purchasers, but must be taken as approximate only, as the final valuation has to be made in accordance with section 244 of “The Land Act, 1908,” at least three months before the expiry of the present licenses.

The licensee of any run upon which deer range shall allow to any legal holder of a license to stalk deer within the district in which such run lies free and unrestricted rights of ingress, egress, and regress upon and over any portion of the run for the purpose of stalking deer.
