portion of the cost of maintaining the said road should be borne by the local authorities affected :

And whereas an inquiry was duly held, and a report was made, in respect to the dispute :

And whereas it is expedient that effect should be given to the recommendations contained in the said report, and that provision should be made under the said Act for the purposes and in the manner hereinafter set forth :

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of the powers and authorities in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby direct that the said road shall, from and after the date of this Warrant, be under the exclusive care and control of the Werekino Road Board ; and, in further pursuance and exercise of the aforesaid powers and authorities, I do hereby fix and determine that the proportion of the cost of maintaining the said road which shall be borne by the Werekino Road Board shall be such proportion as may from time to time be represented by the total amount of such general rates, being not less than one halfpenny in the pound, as may be collected by the Werekino Road Board from lands that front upon the said road, plus subsidy (if any) paid by Government thereon, but less an allowance of ten per centum of such rates and subsidies, and which allowance the Werekino Road Board shall retain for its own use; and that the Parihaka Road Board shall bear a proportion from time to time of the cost of maintaining the said road equivalent to the total amount of such general rates, being not less than one halfpenny in the pound, as may be collected by the Parihaka Road Board from lands that front upon the said road, plus subsidy (if any) paid by Government thereon, but less an allowance of ten per centum of such rates and subsidies, and which allowance the Parihaka Road Board shall retain for its own use ; and, in addition to the proportion hereinbefore stated to be paid from time to time by the Parihaka Road Board, such Board shall at once pay to the Werekino Road Board the sum of sixty pounds sterling in respect to the past maintenance of the said road, which sum of sixty pounds shall upon receipt by the Werekino Road Board be spent in the further maintenance of the said road.

I do also further direct that any contribution hereby required to be made as aforesaid by the Parihaka Road Board shall be paid from time to time in the proportion hereinbefore prescribed out of the funds of the said Board, within a period of thirty days after demand in writing made by or on behalf of the Werekino Road Board, and such payments shall be made from time to time to the Clerk of the Road Board for and on account of such Road Board.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that road, known as the Puniho Road, fronting the north-eastern boundary of the Egmont County, and commencing at its junction with Coast Road near the north-west corner of Section 26, Block IV, Cape Survey District, and proceeding in a south-easterly direction, terminating at the south-eastern corner of Section 2, Block XI, Cape Survey District, on the western boundary of the forest reserve known as Egmont National Park, being a distance of ten miles or thereabouts; as the said road is more particularly delineated on the plan marked R. 7742, deposited in the office of the Chief Engineer of Roads, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District.
