HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Special Order.

THAT, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” the Horowhenua County Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £500, authorised to be raised by the Horowhenua County Council, under the above-mentioned Act, for the purpose of constructing protection-works to prevent erosion by the Otaki River in the Otaki River Special-rating District, the said Horowhenua County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of ½d. in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable properties of the Otaki River Special-rating District, comprising parts 7, 8, and 9, parts 10 and 4A, Waiohanga, and part Waiohanga 4MR, Block IV, Kaitawa Survey District, as the same is shown on the plan and coloured red; and that such special rate shall be an annually recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable on the 1st day of June in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true copy of a special order passed at a special meeting of the Horowhenua County Council held on the 15th day of May, 1909, and confirmed at a subsequent meeting of the Council held on the 12th day of June, 1909.

THE following special order, made by the Waipukurau Town Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.”

WAIPUKURA U TOWN BOARD.

Special Order.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” or any amendments thereto, the Waipukurau Town Board hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £600, authorised to be raised by the Waipukurau Town Board, under the above-mentioned Act, for the purpose of purchasing the Town Hall site and repairing the building, the Waipukurau Town Board hereby makes and levies a special rate of 1/8d. in the pound on the rateable value of all rateable property of the Waipukurau Town District, comprising all that area in the Hawke’s Bay Land District in Blocks XIV and XV, Waipukurau Survey District; as shown upon the plan deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, under No. S.G. 54516, thereon bordered red; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 30th day of June and the 31st day of December in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

I hereby certify that the above special order was made at a special meeting of the Waipukurau Town Board held on the 31st day of May, 1909, and confirmed at a subsequent meeting held on the 6th day of July, 1909.

CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY BOARD.

Proposal to raise Special Loans under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.”

WE hereby give public notice that on the 24th day of June, 1909, proposals were submitted by the Christchurch Tramway Board to a poll of ratepayers of the Christchurch Tramways District for raising special loans of £38,500, £11,600, £5,000, £3,600, and £5,300 respectively, to be expended in tramway construction and equipment within the Christchurch Tramways District, exclusive of the Riccarton-Sockburn Subdistrict, particulars of which proposals have been advertised in this newspaper, and that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the said proposals was as follows:—

(a.) For the extension of the power plant, the extension of the feeder system, and the erection of twelve new electric cars: For, 3,373; against, 1,107.

(b.) For the installation of an electric tramway along Cashel Street to connect with the existing tramway in Canal Reserve: For, 2,331; against, 2,037.

(c.) For the installation of an electric tramway in and along Colombo Street, Edgeware Road, and Cranford Street: For, 2,606; against, 1,734.

(d.) For the installation of an electric tramway from the foot of the Cashmere Hills to the foot of Hackthorne Road: For, 2,111; against, 2,252.

(e.) For the installation of an electric tramway along the Windmill Road: For, 2,347; against, 1,860.

As in respect of the proposals A, B, C, and E the votes recorded in favour having exceeded the number of votes recorded against the same, the proposals in respect to the said clauses we declare to be carried.

As in respect of the proposal D the number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal did not exceed the number of votes against the same, we declare the proposal not carried.

Notice to Mariners No. 50 of 1909.


DISCONTINUANCE OF WELLINGTON TIME-BALL.


Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 10th July, 1909.

THE Wellington Harbour Board have notified that, owing to the destruction by fire of the “J” shed, Waterloo Quay, the time-ball which was situated on the tower of the said shed is no longer available for the information of masters of vessels frequenting the port. Correct mean time may be obtained in the public room of the telegraph-office, close to the Queen’s Wharf, where a galvanometer controlled by the observatory clock is deflected every hour.

LIGHT ON RONA BAY WHARF, PORT NICHOLSON.

Wellington, N.Z., 14th July, 1909.

NOTICE is hereby given that on and after the 1st August, 1909, a fixed red light will be shown from the end of Rona Bay Wharf. The light will be 20 ft. above high water, and should be visible at a distance of about three miles. Rona Bay Wharf bears S. 56° E. from Somes Island light.

Notice to Mariners No. 52 of 1909.


FLAGSTAFF, BULLER RIVER.


Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 14th July, 1909.

THE Westport Harbour Board notify that during the operations of launching the s.s. “Taviuni” the flagstaff at the Buller River will be partially obscured between the bearings S. by W. round to S.E. Vessels waiting for signals to take the bar should anchor clear of these bearings. The probable duration of these operations will be about two months from the 5th July, 1909.
