BRITISH COLUMBIA.
VANCOUVER ISLAND. — WEST COAST. — CARMANAH. — PROVISIONAL LIGHT. — INTENDED CHANGE IN FOG-SIGNAL. — The Canadian Government has given notice that about 1st April, 1909, the revolving white light at Carmanah Light-station, west coast of Vancouver Island, will be discontinued pending repairs to the tower and the installation of a new lighting-apparatus, and a provisional fixed white light will be temporarily exhibited in its place.
Also that about 15th May, 1909, a third-order flashing white light, showing 1 flash every 3 seconds, will be exhibited at the station.
Also that during the summer of 1909 it is proposed to replace the present fog-horn at this station by a more powerful diaphone fog-signal, and that pending alterations it will be necessary to discontinue the signals.

VANCOUVER ISLAND. — VICTORIA HARBOUR. — LAUREL POINT LIGHT MOVED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 49 (2211) of 1906, the Canadian Government has given further notice that the chimney on Laurel Point, Victoria Harbour, from which the fixed red electric harbour-light was suspended, has been taken down, and the light moved 80 ft. south-westward to the pole standing on the bare rock at high-water mark on the extremity of Laurel Point from which it was formerly shown.
The light is now shown from two 16-candle power incandescent electric lamps, suspended in a red globe, 25 ft. above high water, and should be visible one mile from all points of approach by water.

KAUAI.—SOUTH COAST.—MAKAWELI LANDING.—LIGHT DISCONTINUED.—On 1st February, 1909, the fixed red light maintained by the Inter-Island Steamship Company on the wharf at Makaweli Landing, south coast of Kauai Island, Hawaiian Islands, was permanently discontinued.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
TUBUAI OR AUSTRAL ISLANDS.—VAVITAO OR RAVAIVAI ISLAND. —TETOBE PASS.—RANGE BEACONS ERECTED.—INCREASED DEPTH ON SHOALS.—The French Government has given notice that according to information received from the commander of the gunboat “Zelée,” under date of 2nd January, 1909, two white pyramidal beacons have been erected at Mahanatoa, Tetobe Pass, Vavitao or Ravaivai Island, South Pacific Ocean.
The rear beacon stands on Motu Tuitui, and the front one 710 yards N. 81° 15′ E. from it, on the range line indicated by Tehoro Rock, viewed in a notch cut in Motu Tehau, the first island on the barrier reef eastward of the pass.
The other range-marks in Tetobe Pass are all in place.
The shoal, with 1 fathom over it, 197 yards north from Point Te Matocaitanata, and the shoal, with ¾ fathom over it, 547 yards N. 69° E. from the same point, have both been dredged to 2½ fathoms.

RAPA ISLAND.—AHUERI BAY.—BEACON ERECTED.—The commander of the French gunboat “Zelée” reports, under date of 2nd January, 1909, that a beacon surmounted by a black cylindrical topmark has been erected on the outer end of the reef off the Village of Ahueri, Ahueri Bay, Rapa Island, South Pacific Ocean.
The beacon is located 400 yards N. 27° E. from the extremity of the landing-stage.
Approx. position: Lat. 37° 36′ 16″ S., long. 144° 18′ 55″ W.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
MAUI ISLAND.—KAUIKI HEAD LIGHT.—ARC OF VISIBILITY TO BE INCREASED.—About 30th April, 1909, the arc of visibility of the fixed red lens-lantern light located on the small island known as Puu Kii, immediately northward of Kauiki Head, eastern end of Maui Island, will be increased so that the light will be visible over the whole horizon.

OAHU.—PEARL HARBOUR.—BISHOP POINT BEACON DISCONTINUED.—On 19th March, 1909, Bishop Point beacon No. 12, at the entrance to Pearl Harbour, Hawaiian Islands, was permanently discontinued, dredging on Bishop Point Shoal having rendered this beacon no longer necessary.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Marine Board, Port Adelaide, are published for general information.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
Spencer Gulf.—Port Lincoln.—Kirton Point.
Masters of vessels and others are notified that a fixed white light with two red sectors is now exhibited from an erection on the Kirton Point Railway Jetty.
The light, which is a three-wick Wigham lamp fixed on an open ironwork tower painted white, and erected on the sea end of the Kirton Point Jetty, shows the following sectors:— White from N. 77° E. to S. 33° W.; red from S. 33° W. to N. 73° W. (over Boston Island); white from N. 73° W. to to N. 63° W.; obscured from N. 63° W. to N. 77° E. All bearings from seaward.
The light, the focal plane of which is 28 ft. above H.W., is an unattended light.
This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 784, 1061, and 2389B.

Tumby Bay New Jetty.—Unwatched Light.
Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 22 of 1905, masters of vessels and others are informed that the unwatched light mentioned therein has been transferred from the old to the new jetty, situated about 320 ft. to the south of the old jetty-head.
This fixed white light is exhibited from the sea end of the jetty, and is visible for a distance of about five miles.
This affects Admiralty Chart 2389B.

Notice to Mariners No. 49 of 1909.
ERECTION OF LIGHTHOUSE ON TUAHINE POINT, POVERTY BAY.

Wellington, N.Z., 3rd July, 1909.
NOTICE is hereby given that an iron lighthouse, painted white, has been erected on Tuahine Point, Poverty Bay. From it will be exhibited, on or about 15th August, 1909, a white occulting light, flash showing two seconds, followed by an eclipse for six seconds. The light, which is at an elevation of 138 ft. above H.W., will be an unwatched light, burning acetylene gas, which should burn continuously without attention for forty days. It should be seen from seaward (except when obscured by the land) over an arc of 250° between the bearings of about S. 37° W. and S. 73° E. round by north, and should be visible for a distance of eighteen miles.
