Opening Settlement Lands in Wellington Land District for Selection.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” and “The Land for Settlements Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the fourteenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and nine, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.

WAIMEA COUNTY.—WANGAPEKA SURVEY DISTRICT.—WANGAPEKA SETTLEMENT.
Second-class Surveyed Land.
About 120 acres of flat and gradual slope, covered with tall red-manuka scrub, birch, and pine forest; about 30 acres of flats along the Wangapeka River; about 800 acres of hilly, open, and scrub land, covered with patches of manuka, fern, and danthonia; the balance consists of forest-clad hills, chiefly birch, rising to a height of 1,700 ft. above sea-level. Improvements, consisting of 15 acres of bush felled, to the value of £18 15s. have been effected on the section. This amount is included in the value of the land, also half-value of about 66 chains of boundary-fence. The nearest point of the section is distant about five miles and a half from Tadmor Railway-station, by the Tadmor-Sherry Road and the Sherry River Road. The first-mentioned road is formed, and the latter is formed to within three-quarters of a mile of section.
MURCHISON COUNTY.—TUTAKI SURVEY DISTRICT.—BRAEBURN SETTLEMENT.

About 100 acres of flat and gradual slope, fair agricultural land, grassed with English grasses; 100 acres open, hilly land, covered with fern, tutu, and grass. The remainder of the section is hilly forest land, being good pastoral land for two-thirds of distance back from frontage; mixed formation of loose soil containing lime; forest, red-birch and brown-birch, with thick undergrowth of houhou, horopito, and birch; country rather rocky and steep at back of section; granite formation. Altitude ranges from 970 ft. to 3,200 ft. Well watered. Situated thirteen miles and a quarter from Murchison Township, eleven miles being formed cart-road, one mile and three-quarters partly formed and natural surface dray-road, and half a mile of road unformed but accessible for stock.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the eleventh day of August, one thousand nine hundred and nine, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of section one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone.

MURCHISON COUNTY.—MATIRI SURVEY DISTRICT.
Exempt from rent for two years.
All hilly land, with the exception of about 20 acre of flat fronting the Matiri River; all timbered with red-birch and brown-birch, with a little scattered totara, kahikatea, and rata; the soil is good on flats and in gullies. Formation, chiefly limestone and sandstone. Altitude, from 800 ft. to 2,300 ft. above the sea. Distant about eight miles and a half from Murchison, of which six miles is by coach-road, and two and a half miles by a good bridle-track.
INANGAHUA COUNTY.—INANGAHUA SURVEY DISTRICTS.

Chiefly hilly forest land, covered with rimu, kahikatea, totara, and black-birch, with thick undergrowth. There is about 25 acres of flat along the road frontage. The section is well watered, and lies at an altitude of 220 ft. to 550 ft. above sea-level. Situated about twenty-two miles from Reefton and twenty-seven miles from Westport by main coach-road, and three-quarters of a mile of good cart-road known as Brown’s Creek Road. The Post-office at Inangahua Junction is distant about one mile and three-quarters.
BULLER COUNTY.—BRIGHTON SURVEY DISTRICT.

Hilly forest land, covered with rata, tawhero, mahoe, and heavy undergrowth. About one-half gradual slope up from Fox’s River, remainder broken limestone country; good soil; well watered. Distant about eleven miles from Charleston.

All forest land, containing rata, rimu, tawhero, mahoe, and dense undergrowth. Easy slopes in front, with broken limestone soil at the back; good soil. Well watered by permanent streams in front, but no water at back. Distant about eleven miles and a half from Charleston.
