Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the twenty-eighth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and nine; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”

Undulating to broken country, covered with mixed forest, comprising taraire, kohēkōhe, and miro, with dense undergrowth of nikau and bush-ferns; soil of good second-class quality, on sandstone formation; well watered. Situated about thirteen miles from either Kaikohe or Taheke by road, good in summer.

WAIKATO COUNTY.—TAUPIRI PARISH.

Broken land; about 50 acres fern; balance light to heavy mixed forest, comprising rewarewa, tawa, rata, cedar, manuka, and hinau, with light undergrowth of ferns, supplejack, mahoe; clay and light soil of fair quality, on slate formation; well watered by Mangapiko Stream. Distant about twelve miles from Ohinewai Railway-station by good cart-road, partly metalled.

ROTORUA COUNTY.—ROTOINI SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, from 1,000 ft. to 1,300 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land; about 120 acres open; 26 acres felled and grassed; balance mixed forest, comprising rimu, tawa, rata, with thick undergrowth of scrub; soil of good quality, on volcanic formation; no water on section. Situated about twelve miles from Rotorua—ten miles by Rotorua-Tauranga coach-road, balance by formed road locally known as the Ten-mile Road.

ROTORUA COUNTY.—ROTORUA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Undulating land; 230 acres fern; 200 acres mixed forest, comprising tawa, rimu, rata, pukatea, hinau, and rewarewa, with thick undergrowth of scrub; light soil of good quality, on volcanic formation; no water on section. Situated about six miles from Rotoma Post-office by formed road.

Undulating land, covered with fern, except about 3 acres of mixed forest, consisting of tawa and rata, with thick undergrowth of scrub; soil of good quality, on volcanic (pumice) formation; well watered by Pongakawa Stream. Situated about seven miles from Pongakawa Post-office by formed road.

ROTORUA COUNTY.—MAKETU SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, about 500 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land; all covered with fern, except about 2 acres of mixed forest, comprising rimu and tawa, with thick undergrowth of scrub; soil of good quality, on volcanic formation. Selector will have to depend on tanks, as there is no water on the section. Situated about six miles from Pongakawa Post-office by formed road.

Very broken land; none ploughable; about 30 acres light mixed forest in gullies, comprising towai and tawa, with dense undergrowth of bush-ferns; 2 acres grass; balance fern and manuka; soil of inferior quality, on sandstone formation; well watered. Situated just over one mile from Kawakawa by good dray-road.

MANGONUI COUNTY.—HOHOURA EAST SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, from 30 ft. to 50 ft. above sea-level. Nearly level land, covered with manuka and rushes; inferior sandy soil, on sandstone formation. Fronts Hohoura Harbour, about one mile from wharf. Steamer can land goods within 2 chains of boundary, and section is also easily accessible by dray from main road across the kauri-gum reserve.
