Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of a Road through Raetihi Native Blocks 3b and 4b, Block IV, Makotuku Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of “The Public Works Act, 1908,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was, on the 11th day of February, 1909, duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 16th day of January, 1909.

Notice of Half-holiday (for Boys under Eighteen Years of Age and Women) in the Borough of New Plymouth under “The Factories Act, 1908,” Section 36.

WHEREAS a poll of the electors of the Borough of New Plymouth has been taken on a proposal that the weekly half-holiday provided for by section 35 of “The Factories Act, 1908,” should be allowed in that borough on the same day as the day appointed as the statutory closing-day for shops in that borough: And whereas a majority of the votes given at such poll were in favour of the said proposal:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the provisions of subsection (2) of section 36 of “The Factories Act, 1908,” I, Alexander Wilson Hogg, Minister of Labour, hereby give notice that on and after the 17th day of May, 1909, the half-holiday (for boys under eighteen years of age and women) under “The Factories Act, 1908,” shall be allowed in the Borough of New Plymouth on the same day as that appointed from time to time as the statutory closing-day for shops in the said borough, instead of on Saturday.

NOTE.—The statutory half-holiday appointed for shops in the Borough of New Plymouth is at present Thursday.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Grocers’ Shops in the Borough of Napier under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops in the Borough of Napier, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the closing-hours for all such shops in the borough shall be fixed as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 7 p.m.; Wednesdays, 1 p.m.; and Saturdays 10 p.m.; excepting the days named in section 5 of “The Shop and Offices Act, 1908,” when the hour shall be 11 p.m.: And whereas the Napier Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition constitute a majority of the grocers doing business within the Borough of Napier:

Now, therefore, I, Alexander Wilson Hogg, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that on and after the 17th day of May, 1909, all grocers’ shops in the Borough of Napier shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

The days named in section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” are Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and the Saturday preceding Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, when these days fall on Monday.

Approving and appointing a Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this purpose vested by “The Customs Law Act, 1908,” I, the Minister of Customs, do hereby approve and appoint the undermentioned warehouse to be a warehouse for the reception of goods under bond, namely,—

Port of Invercargill.

A brick building, roofed with iron, situated on Section 7, Block I, Leven Street, Invercargill, to be known as THOMSON’S BOND.

Notice of Date of Examinations.

Wellington, 10th May, 1909.

NOTICE is hereby given that a Civil Service Junior Examination will be held in November, 1909, beginning on or about the 20th day of the month. That a Junior National Scholarship and Free Place Examination will be held on or about the 1st and 2nd days of December, 1909, and that a Civil Service Senior Examination and an examination for teachers’ certificates of Class C and Class D will be held in January, 1910, beginning on or about the 5th day of the month.

With the Civil Service Junior Examination will be taken the Special Examination for senior free places in secondary schools and district high schools; and the First Examination of pupil-teachers.

With the Junior National Scholarship Examination will be taken the Junior Free Place Examination (including the examination for junior free places in technical schools).

Entries for Junior National Scholarships, Junior Free Places, and the First Examination of pupil-teachers must be made through the principals or head teachers of the schools attended, and will be received by Secretaries of Education Boards not later than the 15th September, 1909.

Entries for the Civil Service Junior Examination and Special Examination for Senior Free Places will be received by the Inspector-General of Schools, at Wellington, until the 15th September, 1909, or, with a late fee of £1, until the 22nd September, 1909.

Entries for the January examinations will be received by the Inspector-General of Schools, at Wellington, until the 30th September, 1909, or, with a late fee of £1 in addition to the ordinary fee, until the 15th October, 1909.

All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained later from the office of any Education Board or of the Education Department.

Special attention is drawn to alterations in date for the receipt of applications.
