hereby makes and levies a special rate of one penny farthing
in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable
properties of the Kohukohu Special District, comprising all
those sections within an area bounded by a line commencing
at a point where the western boundary of Section 1, Suburbs
of Kohukohu, meets the Kohukohu Tio Road, from thence
southwards by the western boundaries of that section and
Sections 1, 3, and 6 until it meets the northern boundary-
line of Tautehihi Block No. 1B, by following that line east-
wards to the Hokianga River, and from thence by the tidal
frontage until it reaches the starting-point at Section 1
aforesaid; and that such special rate shall be an annual-
recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be
payable half-yearly on the 1st day of April and the 1st
day of October in each and every subsequent year during
the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years,
or until the loan is fully paid off, the interest of which is to
be fixed at a rate of 3½ per cent. per annum.

The above resolution was duly passed at a special meeting
of the Council held on the 17th day of December, 1908,
and duly confirmed at a subsequent meeting held on the
28th day of January, 1909.

PURSUANT to an order dated the 28th day of April,
1909, by His Honour Mr. Justice Cooper, all persons
claiming to be creditors of the above-named company are
required, on or before the 17th day of May, 1909, to send in
their names and addresses, and particulars of their debts
and claims, and the names and addresses of their solicitors
(if any), to ERNEST WILLIAM HUNT and SIDNEY COOPER LEARY,
the Liquidators of the said company, in Featherston Street,
Wellington, or in default thereof they will be excluded from
the benefit of any distribution made before such debts are
proved.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Partnership heretofore
subsisting between RICHARD AROA and FRANK AROA,
carrying on business as Grocers and General Storekeepers
at New Plymouth, under the name of "R. and F. Aroa,"
has been dissolved by mutual consent as from the 1st day of
May, 1909. All debts due to and owing by the said firm
will be received and paid respectively by the said Richard
Aroa, who will continue to carry on the said business in his
own name.

NOTICE OF CHANGE OF SURNAME.

JOHN PRATT, of Thames, Bricklayer, hereby give
notice that on the 8th day of April, 1909, I formally
and absolutely renounced and abandoned the use of my
surname of "Brown," and then assumed and adopted and
determined thenceforth on all occasions to use and subscribe
the name of "Pratt" instead of the said name of "Brown";
and I further give notice that such change of surname is
evidenced by an affidavit dated the 8th day of April, 1909,
deposited in the office of the Supreme Court at Auckland.

ANNE JANE DRENNAN, of Arch Hill, near Auckland,
in the Provincial District of Auckland, in New

the names "Anne Jane Drennan-Sinclair" will be assumed,
taken, and adopted by me in lieu of the names "Anne Jane
Drennan," by which I have heretofore been called and

SCHOOL FOR DEAF-MUTES, SUMNER, NEAR
CHRISTCHURCH.

Under the control and supervision of the Education
Department.

Director : MR. J. E. STEVENS.

FOR Deaf Children of sound intellect. The pupils are
taught to use and understand ordinary speech. The
full charge for board and education is £40 a year, but
less is accepted from parents who cannot afford to pay
this amount. In case of necessity admission is free.

By the Education Act, the education of deaf children
between the ages of 7 and 16 is made compulsory. A child
is, as a rule, best fitted to begin the school course at about
the age of 6, but advice should be obtained as soon as any
sign of deafness is observed.

The following classes of deaf children are admitted :

  1. Children born deaf, or who have lost their hear-
    ing before learning to speak.

  2. Children who can hear a little, but are too deaf
    to be taught in an ordinary school.

  3. Children who have lost their hearing after having
    learned to speak.

Parents and other persons acquainted with such cases
above the age of 4 are invited to communicate with the
Director, or with
