A patch carrying 5½ fms., “Guthrie Shoal,” in 23° 2½′ S., 151° 53½′ E., 8¾ miles N. 26° W. from North Reef Lt.-h. From the 5½-fm. patch the shoal extends about 6 cables S. by E., and for 1 mile W.N.W. (b.) A circular shoal, “Innamincka Shoal,” 1 mile in diam., carrying a least depth 5½ fms. on its ern. edge, in 23° 0′ S., 151° 52¾′ E., 11½ miles N. 26° W. from North Reef Lt.-h. March.
The 4-fm. rk. chartered in 17° 9¾′ S., 146° 0¼′ E., about 8¼ cables N. 68° W. from the summit of High Isl., Frankland Isls., has been unsucc. searched for, and expunged from the chart. March.
The following coral shoals exist near the Frankland Isls. and the Great Barrier Reef: (a.) A shoal carrying 3 fms. in 17° 13¼′ S., 146° 5¼′ E., about 3 cables off the wrn. side of the reef joining Russell and Normanby Isls. (b.) A bank carrying 2½ fms. in 16° 49½′ S., 146° 21¾′ E., and which extends from the above position 1¼ miles N. 15° W. with a breadth of 2½ cables, carrying 2½ fms. to 6 fms. (c.) A shoal carrying 4½ fms. in 16° 43′ S., 146° 16¾′ E. March.
NEW ZEALAND.
ADMIRALTY PUBLICATIONS issued:—
“New Zealand Pilot,” 8th edition, 1908. The following Admiralty Notices to Mariners, issued since going to Press, affect this book: Nos. 1937, 1938, 1975, and 2018 of 1908. February.
PACIFIC OCEAN.
New Guinea.
GEELVINK STRAIT.—A shoal, sand and stones, carrying about 5 fms. (estimated), and which cannot be disting. by discolouration of the water, exists in 1° 24′ S., 136° 28¼′ E., in the strait. The shoal is 1° 12¾′ S., 136° 9′ E., in Mokmer Road, Wiak Isl., about 3½ cables E. by S. from Sapor Pt., carries barely 6 ft., in the place of 3 fms. as at present shown on the chart. March.
Solomon Islands.
BOUGAINVILLE STRAIT.—SHORTLAND HARB.—A shoal, carrying 3¼ fms., with two 4-fm. rks. close-to, and 5 fms. around, exists in 7° 5¼′ S., 155° 51¾′ E., in the harb., with ern. extr. of Faisi Isl. N. 11° E. about 6 cables, and the nrn. extr. of Orlofe Isl. nearly in line with the nrn. extr. of Onua Isl., N. 68° E. March.
New Caledonia.
PORT NOUMEA APPROACH.—1. The upper leading-lt. (22° 24′ S., 166° 56¼′ E.) on Cape Ndua is reported to be only vis. for about 8 miles, and the lower lt. about 5 miles; as these lts. are therefore practically useless for making Havannah Passage, the leading-line on the chart has been amended accordingly. 2. A high beacon with top-mark is est. in 22° 25½′ S., 166° 33½′ E., on Ka Sand. September.
New Hebrides.
ESPIRITU SANTO ISL.—The depth on the 7-fm. shoal (P.D.) chartered in 15° 23½′ S., 166° 34′ E., wrd. of the isl., should be amended to 3 fms. March.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
HAWAII.—HILO BAY.—COCOANUT POINT LIGHT-STATION.—LIGHT TO BE MOVED.—About 31st January, 1909, the light at Cocoanut Point Light-station, located on the old Government wharf at the foot of Waianuenue Street, Hilo, and about 400 ft. southward of Cocoanut Point, western side of Hilo Bay, east coast of Hawaii, will be moved about 50 ft. to the northward of its present position, and re-established about 25 ft. above the ground and 30 ft. above mean high water on a square, openwork, iron tower painted red.
The characteristic of the light will remain unchanged.
The old Government wharf, on which the light is now located, will be removed as soon as the position of the light is changed.

CALIFORNIA.
SAN FRANCISCO LIGHT-VESSEL NO. 70 WITHDRAWN FROM STATION.—RELIEF LIGHT-VESSEL.—About 1st March, 1909, San Francisco light-vessel No. 70, moored about 3¼ miles outside the bar off the entrance to San Francisco Harbour, 10⅔ miles S. 72° 20′ W. from Fort Point Lighthouse, and about 500 ft. northward of the range line marked by Fort Point and Alcatraz lights, will be temporarily withdrawn from her station for repairs, and the station will be marked by Relief light-vessel No. 76.
Light-vessel No. 76 will show 2 fixed white lights, each from three lens lanterns encircling a masthead, elevated 46 ft. above the water and visible 12 miles. She will also sound fog-signals having the same characteristics as those of light-vessel No. 70.
Relief light-vessel No. 76 is a flush-deck steam-vessel, having two masts, schooner-rigged, no bowsprit, a black smoke-stack and a steam-whistle between the masts, but differs from light-vessel No. 70 in having all visible parts from the bow to the middle of the foremast and from the middle of the mainmast aft painted red; all visible parts between the fore and main masts, including the middle third of each lantern-mast, white. The day marks at the mastheads have five vertical stripes, three red and two white, and on the spring-stay midway between the two masts there is an oval hoop-iron day mark with one white and two red vertical stripes. The number “76” is in white on each bow and each quarter, and in black on each side of the spring-stay day mark. The word “Relief” is painted in large black letters on the middle of each side.
BRITISH COLUMBIA.
CHANGE IN COLOUR OF GAS-LIGHTED BEACONS.—In establishing gas-lighted beacons on the coast of British Columbia it has been customary to leave the gas-tanks red as originally painted: To avoid confusion and to conform to the international rules for the colouring of beacons the following structures, including foundations, framework supporting tanks, tanks, and framework supporting lanterns, will, without further notice, be painted black throughout to indicate that they should be left on the port hand when going with the main stream of flood tide. The metal work of the small gas lanterns is always red irrespective of the side of the channel on which they are placed.
