Making Amended Regulations under “The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1908.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twentieth day of April, 1908.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities in that behalf conferred on him by “The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1908” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), and its amendments, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby revoke all regulations heretofore made under the said Act or any Act repealed thereby, and doth hereby make the following regulations in lieu thereof for the purposes of the said Act, and doth hereby declare that this Order in Council and the regulations hereby made shall come into force on the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nine.
REGULATIONS
RELATING TO THE EXAMINATION OF EXTRA FIRST-CLASS ENGINEERS AND ENGINE-DRIVERS.
CHAPTER I.—GENERAL RULES.

Examinations for certificates under “The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1908” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), will be conducted at the offices of the Inspectors of Machinery at Auckland, Hamilton, Wanganui, Napier, Palmerston North, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, and Invercargill on the first week-day (and on following days if necessary to complete examinations) of the months of February, May, August, and November, or at such other times and places as the Chief Inspector of Machinery may direct. No persons will be allowed in the rooms during the examinations other than those whose duties require them to be present, and no instructors will be allowed on the premises.

All books necessary for the use of candidates under examination will be provided by the Examiners. Applicants are not permitted to take into the examining-room any book, paper, document, or memoranda of any description whatever.

Candidates for extra first-class engineer and first-class engine-driver must pass an examination in rough working-drawing, which may, at the candidates’ option, be either hand-sketches clearly dimensioned and complete in the necessary views and sections, or drawing to a scale. Drawing-boards and T-squares will be provided by the Inspection of Machinery Department, but the candidates must bring with them any drawing-instruments they may require.

(1.) Candidates will be allowed, in the time allotted, to cancel any part of their work, and, when required, additional papers will be supplied by the Examiner; but they will not be allowed to work out the problems on a slate or on paper other than that supplied by the Examiner. The additional sheets must be attached to and form part of the examination-papers.
(2.) Candidates must be placed so as to prevent one copying from another, and no communication whatever between the candidates will be allowed.

In the event of any candidate being discovered copying from another, or affording any assistance or giving information to another, or communicating in any way with another during the time of examination, he will be regarded as having failed in his examination, and will be turned back for three months, in the same manner as if he had failed in the practical part of the examination, and no part of the fees he may have paid for the examination will be returned to him.

(1.) If a candidate leaves the room before answering any question which has been given to him, he cannot afterwards be permitted
