LAND TRANSFER ACT NOTICES.
A PPLICATION having been made to me for the issue of a provisional occupation license with right of purchase, in the name of JOSEPH CHATFIELD, of Mangaweka, Farmer, for Section 11, Block V, Hautapu Survey District, and all the land in Volume 14A, folio 180, of the Wellington Registry, and evidence having been lodged of the loss or destruction of the said license, I hereby give notice that I will issue the provisional license as requested unless caveat be lodged forbidding the same on or before the 29th day of May, 1909.

THE AUCKLAND AND SUBURBAN DRAINAGE BOARD.
SPECIAL ORDER.
T HE Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board doth hereby, by special order, in terms of section 62 of “The Auckland and Suburban Drainage Act, 1908,” resolve to borrow the sum of one hundred thousand pounds sterling (£100,000).
The foregoing special order was made at a special meeting of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, convened on the requisition of the Chairman under date the 17th day of March, 1909, and held on the 24th day of March, 1909. It was publicly notified in the New Zealand Herald on the 20th March, 6th, 13th, and 20th April, 1909, and confirmed by the Board at its ordinary meeting on the 21st day of April, 1909.

SCHOOL FOR DEAF-MUTES, SUMNER, NEAR CHRISTCHURCH.
Under the control and supervision of the Education Department.
Director: MR. J. E. STEVENS.
F OR Deaf Children of sound intellect. The pupils are taught to use and understand ordinary speech. The full charge for board and education is £40 a year, but less is accepted from parents who cannot afford to pay this amount. In case of necessity admission is free.
By the Education Act, the education of deaf children between the ages of 7 and 16 is made compulsory. A child is, as a rule, best fitted to begin the school course at about the age of 6, but advice should be obtained as soon as any sign of deafness is observed.
The following classes of deaf children are admitted:
- Children born deaf, or who have lost their hearing before learning to speak.
- Children who can hear a little, but are too deaf to be taught in an ordinary school.
- Children who have lost their hearing after having learned to speak.
Parents and other persons acquainted with such cases above the age of 4 are invited to communicate with the Director, or with
