ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF BOARD.

NOTICE is hereby given that an election will be held for the purpose of electing as members of the Teachers' Superannuation Board two persons from among the contributors to the Teachers' Superannuation Fund resident in the North Island, and two persons from among the contributors to the said fund residing in the South Island (including Stewart and Chatham Islands). And notice is further given that—

(1.) The said election will be held on Monday, the 1st day of March, 1909, at the office of the Education Department, Wellington.

(2.) The poll will be closed at 5 o’clock p.m.

(3.) Nominations will close on Monday, the 8th day of February, 1909, at 5 o’clock p.m.

Result of Poll of the Northern Maori Electoral District.

IN pursuance of a writ under the hand of Hugh Pollen, Esquire, Clerk of the Writs, a poll was, on the 2nd day of December, 1908, taken at the several gazetted polling-places under the provisions of Part IV of “The Legislature Act, 1908,” for the purpose of the election of a member of the House of Representatives for the Northern Maori Electoral District: And whereas Hone Heke, of Wellington, Aboriginal Native, received the greatest number of votes recorded by such poll: Now I do hereby declare him, the said HONE HEKE, duly elected as a member of the said House of Representatives for the said Northern Maori Electoral District.

As witness my hand, this 7th day of December, 1908.

The following is a list of the names of candidates nominated on the 12th day of November, 1908, with the number of votes recorded for each person nominated:—

Declaration of Result of Poll for the Eastern Maori Electoral District.

IN accordance with the provisions of “The Legislature Act, 1908,” I herewith give notice that the result of the poll taken on the 2nd day of December, 1908, for the election of a member of Parliament for the Eastern Maori Electoral District was as follows:—

Apirana Ngata .. .. .. 4,740 votes.
Tiki Paaka .. .. .. 1,730 votes.

And I do hereby declare that APIRANA NGATA, having received the greater number of votes, is duly elected as such member.

Western Maori Electoral District.

IN pursuance of Part IV of “The Legislature Act, 1908,” I, William Henry Grace, Returning Officer for the Western Maori Electoral District, do hereby declare the result of the poll taken on the 2nd day of December, 1908, for the election of a member of Parliament to serve in the House of Representatives for the above-mentioned district, the candidates nominated and the votes recorded for each being as follows:—

As HENARE KAIHAU has obtained the majority of votes recorded, I therefore declare him, the said Henare Kaihau, to be the member elected for the Western Maori Electoral District.

Notice of Result of Poll, Southern Maori Electoral District.

IN accordance with section 185 of “The Legislature Act, 1908,” I do hereby give public notice that the result of the poll taken by me on the 2nd December, 1908, for the election of a member to serve in the House of Representatives for the Southern Maori Electoral District was as follows:—

Tame Parata .. .. .. 358 votes.
Teone Hopere Wharewiti Uru .. 351 votes.
Charles West .. .. .. 21 votes.

And I do hereby declare that TAME PARATA, having received the greatest number of votes, is duly elected as such member.

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this 21st day of December, 1908.

Examination for Dredgemasters’ Certificates.

Mines Department, Wellington, 9th October, 1908.

AN examination of candidates for certificates as dredgemasters, under “The Mining Act, 1908,” will be held on Tuesday, the 30th March, 1909, at Greymouth and Clyde. All applications, with necessary certificates, and fee of £1 by post-office order, should be addressed to “The Secretary, Board of Examiners under the Mining Act, Wellington,” and must be received on or before the 8th March, 1909. Forms of application may be obtained from Inspectors of Mines, Westport, Reefton, Clyde, and Dunedin.

NOTE.—No candidate will be permitted to present himself for examination unless he holds an authority from the Secretary stating that his certificates of service have been accepted by the Board.


Examination for Mine-managers’ and Battery Superintendents’ Certificates.

Mines Department, Wellington, 9th October, 1908.

WRITTEN and oral examinations of candidates for certificates as First- and Second-class Mine-managers and Battery Superintendents under “The Mining Act, 1908,” and First- and Second-class Mine-managers under “The Coal-mines Act, 1908,” will be held on Tuesday, the 23rd March, 1909, and following days, at the Thames, Waihi, Reefton, and Dunedin. All applications, with necessary certificates, and fee of £1 by post-office order, should be addressed to “The Secretary, Board of Examiners under the Mining Act [or Coal-mines Act], Wellington,” and must be received on or before the 8th March, 1909. Forms of application may be obtained at any School of Mines, and from Inspectors of Mines.
