Land taken for a Further Portion of the North Island Main Trunk Railway, from a Point at or near Marton to Te Awamutu, via Murimotu, Taumarunui, and the Ongarue River Valley—namely, Part of Makaretu Section, and Owhango and Whakapapa Sections.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken for a further portion of the North Island Main Trunk Railway, from a point at or near Marton to Te Awamutu, via Murimotu, Taumarunui, and the Ongarue River Valley—namely, part of Makaretu Section, and Owhango and Whakapapa Sections :

And whereas all conditions precedent required by law to be observed and performed prior to the taking of such land for the purpose hereinbefore specified have been observed and performed :

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by section one hundred and eighty-eight of “The Public Works Act, 1908,” and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto is hereby taken for the further portion of the said railway hereinbefore specified.

All in the Land District of Wellington; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 24271, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works, at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington, and thereon coloured as above.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable William Lee, Baron Plunket, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the Government House, at Wellington, this thirtieth day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eight.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers conferred by section eleven of “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, with the consent of the owners and mortgagees of the lands hereinafter mentioned, and with the consent of the Pahiatua County Council, being the local authority in whose district the said lands are situated, do by this notice hereby proclaim as taken for a road the lands in Mangahao Survey District described in the Schedule hereto.

After a massive fire destoyed the wooden Parliament complex in 1907, Old Government House (depicted) became the seat of Parliament until 1918. Demolished in 1969 to make way for the Beehive.
