COUNTY OF LEVELS.

SPECIAL ORDER RAISING SPECIAL LOAN.

I HEREBY certify that the following is a true copy of a special order made by the Council of the County of Levels at a special meeting of the said Council held on the 24th day of October, 1908, and confirmed at a subsequent ordinary meeting of the said Council held on the 2nd day of December, 1908.

  1. That this Council, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon it by section 118 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” and all or other powers and authorities enabling it in that behalf, do proceed to raise the sum of £5,400 by way of a special loan, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” having a currency of thirty-two years, for the following purposes :—

(1.) To provide the sum of £5,000, being one-half of the cost of the construction of the bridge mentioned in the First Schedule hereto, the construction of which bridge the Governor, by Warrant dated the 2nd day of May, 1908, made pursuant to section 118 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” authorised the Geraldine County Council to undertake, and thereby declared that one-half of the cost thereof should be borne by the Council of the County of Geraldine, and one-half by the Council of the County of Levels.

(2.) To provide the sum of £400, being the proportion of the cost of the construction of the bridge mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto, which the Governor, by Warrant dated the 16th day of June, 1908, made pursuant to section 118 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” declared should be contributed by the Council of the County of Levels.

The First Schedule.

That bridge over the Opihi River, on the main road between Temuka and Timaru, and known as the Opihi Bridge; as the site of the said bridge is more particularly delineated on the plan marked R. 9010, deposited in the office of the Chief Engineer of Roads, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon shown red in colour.

The Second Schedule.

That bridge over the Opihi River at Hanging Rock, and known as the Opihi Bridge, Hanging Rock; as the said bridge is more particularly delineated on the plan marked R. 2609, deposited in the office of the Chief Engineer of Roads, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon shown red in colour.

LOST POLICY.

EVIDENCE having been supplied of the loss of Policy No. 1395976 in the books of the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, on the life of THOMAS ROLAND MACKAY, of Timaru, I hereby give notice that it is the intention of this Society to issue, after the expiration of one month from date, a certified copy policy, under section 59 of “The Life Insurance Act, 1908.”

SOUTH CANTERBURY TROTTING CLUB.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers in that behalf contained in section 33 of “The Gaming Act, 1908,” and with the approval of the Governor, the South Canterbury Trotting Club, a racing club within the meaning of the said Act, doth hereby make the following regulations controlling the admission of persons to that part of the Timaru Racecourse Reserve situate at Washdyke set apart for racing purposes and known as the “Timaru Racecourse,” while the said racecourse is used or occupied by the said club for race meetings :—

  1. In these regulations the words “bookmakers” and “racing club” shall have the meanings ascribed to those terms by section 2 of the said Act.

  2. The following persons shall be and are hereby excluded from the Timaru Racecourse while the same is used or occupied by the said club for a race meeting, namely,—

(a.) Bookmakers, unless they shall be duly licensed by the said club under and in pursuance of the provisions of section 34 of the said Act.

(b.) All persons under disqualification inflicted by any trotting club in the Dominion of New Zealand, the Commonwealth of Australia, or elsewhere if affiliated to the New Zealand Trotting Association.
