New County of Murchison divided into Ridings, &c.

A PROCLAMATION.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Counties Act, 1908,” and “The Murchison County Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby divide the new County of Murchison, as constituted by the said Acts, into seven ridings, to be called the Hampden Riding, the Maruia North Riding, the Maruia South Riding, the Matakitaki Riding, the Matiri Riding, the Braeburn Riding, and the Owen Riding, and declare that the boundaries thereof shall be those set forth in the Schedule hereto.
And I do hereby declare that one member shall be elected for each of the aforesaid ridings. And I do further declare that Thursday, the twenty-second day of April, one thousand nine hundred and nine, shall be the day upon which the election of the first Council of the said County of Murchison shall take place, and that Monday, the third day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nine, at noon, shall be the time, and the Buller Post Buildings, at Murchison, shall be the place, at which the first meeting of the said Council shall be held.
SCHEDULE.
HAMPDEN RIDING.
ALL that area in the Nelson Land District bounded towards the north by a line along the middle of the Buller River from its confluence with the Matakitaki River to its confluence with the Mangles River; thence towards the east generally by a line along the middle of the Mangles River to a point opposite the north-eastern corner of Section No. 2, Block II, Tutaki Survey District; thence by a right line to said north-eastern corner; thence along the eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 2 and 1, Block II aforesaid, the south-eastern boundary of the last-mentioned section, and the southern boundary of Section No. 1, Square 170, to the south-western corner of the last-mentioned section; thence by the watershed between the Matakitaki and Mangles Rivers to a point in line with the northern boundary of Section No. 14, Block II aforesaid; thence towards the south by a right line to the north-eastern corner of that section; thence by Sections Nos. 14, 7, and 24A, Block II, Tutaki Survey District, across a road, and by Sections Nos. 4 and 2, Block I, to the Matakitaki River; and thence towards the west by a line along the middle of that river to the Buller River, the place of commencement.
MARUIA NORTH RIDING.
All that area in the Nelson Land District bounded towards the east generally by the western watershed of the Matiri River from the Lyall Range to Mount Newton; thence by a spur to Husband’s Creek, at a point distant one mile from its mouth; thence by that creek to the Buller River; thence by a line along the middle of the Buller River to its confluence with the Matakitaki River; thence by a line along the middle of the Matakitaki River to a point opposite the south-western corner of Section No. 1, Block I, Tutaki Survey District; thence by a right line running due west to the watershed between the Maruia and Matakitaki Rivers; thence by that watershed to the spur which runs to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 8, Block III, Maruia Survey District; thence towards the south generally by the summit of that spur and the south-eastern boundary of the said Section No. 8 to the Shenandoah River; thence by that river to its confluence with the Maruia River; thence across and by the Maruia River to the southern boundary of Section No. 5, Block III, Maruia Survey District; thence by the southern and south-western boundaries of that section and the summit of the spur which joins the Victoria Range near the head of Coffee Creek; and thence towards the west and north-west generally by the Inangahua and Buller Counties to the place of commencement.
MARUIA SOUTH RIDING.
All that area in the Nelson Land District bounded towards the north generally by the Maruia North Riding, hereinbefore described, from the county boundary to the watershed between the Maruia and Matakitaki Rivers; thence towards the east generally by that watershed and the watershed between the Maruia and Glenroy Rivers; and again towards the north by the northern watershed of the Maruia River, near its source, to the county boundary; thence towards the south-east by Amuri County; towards the south generally by Grey County; and towards the west generally by Inangahua County to the place of commencement.
ERRATA.—In Schedule to Proclamation taking land for road in Block VI, Wangaehu Survey District, Rangitikei County, dated 7th August, 1906, and published in New Zealand Gazette No. 67, page 2132, of 9th August, 1906, for “2 acres 3 roods 7 perches” read “2 acres 3 roods 5·5 perches.”
In the Order in Council published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 4th day of March, 1909, page 638, declaring certain lands to be subject to Part I of “The Native Land Settlement Act, 1907,” for “Ahomatariki No. 38” read “Ahomatariki No. 3B”; also, in the same Order in Council, for “Poututu No. 1” read “Poututu No. 1.”
In the Order in Council published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 11th day of March, 1909, page 740, declaring certain lands to be subject to Part II of “The Native Land Settlement Act, 1907,” for “Kuratau C” read “Kuratau C2”; and for “Tikapa” read “Tikapaahinekopeka.”
