I HEREBY give notice that on Wednesday, the 3rd day of February, 1909, the above-mentioned proposal was submitted to a poll of the ratepayers of the Mangatoki Riding of the Eltham County, and that the number of valid votes recorded respectively for and against the proposal was as follows: For the proposal, 112 votes; against the proposal, 76 votes; total valid votes recorded, 188 votes; informal votes, nil. And I declare the said proposal to be rejected.

Notice to Mariners No. 14 of 1909.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Lyttelton Harbour Board, is published for general information.

DREDGING OPERATIONS, INNER HARBOUR, PORT OF LYTTELTON.
As the dredge “Manchester” is about to work inside the Inner Harbour at the end of the Eastern Breakwater, masters of steamers and vessels trading to the port are notified that the dredge-moorings will be laid across the entrance, and also from the breakwater over towards the wharves, and masters of vessels are cautioned against fouling them.

The dredge will be working there for about three weeks, dating from the 9th instant.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of all Shops in the Fitzroy Town District under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the Fitzroy Town District, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all shops in the town district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 p.m.; Thursdays, 1 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 p.m.: And whereas the Fitzroy Town Board has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops within the Fitzroy Town District:

Now, therefore, I, Alexander Wilson Hogg, the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that from and after the 22nd day of February, 1909, all the shops in the Fitzroy Town District shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of all Shops in the Borough of Patea under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the Borough of Patea, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: 1 p.m. on the weekly half-holiday; 9 p.m. on one night of the week during the months of April, May, June, July, August, and September; and 9.30 p.m. on the same night of the week during the months of October, November, December, January, February, and March, such night to be Friday in the case of those shops observing Saturday as the half-holiday, and Saturday in the case of those observing Wednesday as the half-holiday; and 6 p.m. on the other four working-days of the week: And whereas the Patea Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the Borough of Patea:

Now, therefore, I, David Buddo, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of March, 1909, all shops in the Borough of Patea shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of Chemists’ and Druggists’ and Herbalists’ Shops in the City of Nelson under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ and druggists’ and herbalists’ shops in the City of Nelson, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 8 p.m.; Wednesdays (the weekly half-holiday) at 1 p.m.; Thursdays at 8 p.m.; Fridays at 8 p.m.; and Saturdays at 10 p.m.; except that on holidays shops be allowed to open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.: And whereas the Nelson City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ and druggists’ and herbalists’ shops, combined and separately, in the City of Nelson:

Now, therefore, I, David Buddo, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of March, 1909, all chemists’ and druggists’ and herbalists’ shops, combined and separately, in the City of Nelson shall be closed in accordance with such requisition, excepting that on the half-holiday all such shops may remain open from 7 p.m. till 9 p.m. only for the supply of medicines and surgical appliances which are urgently required.

The notice gazetted on the 12th day of March, 1908, fixing the closing-hours of all such shops in the City of Nelson, is hereby varied accordingly.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Ironmongery and Hardware Shops in the City of Nelson under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the ironmongery and hardware shops in the City of Nelson, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 5.30 p.m., and on Wednesdays (the weekly half-holiday) at 1 p.m. In cases where shops decide to close on Saturdays in lieu of Wednesdays (the statutory closing-day), then in all such cases for the purpose of this requisition Saturday to take place of Wednesday. Christmas and New Year’s Eve to be exempted. And whereas the Nelson City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the ironmongery and hardware shops, combined and separately, in the City of Nelson:

Now, therefore, I, David Buddo, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of March, 1909, all ironmongery and hardware shops, combined and separately, in the City of Nelson shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.
