ELLERSLIE TOWN BOARD.
Proposed Loan of £1,300 for the Purchase of a Recreation Reserve for the District.
I HEREBY give notice that at the poll of ratepayers of the Ellerslie Town District taken on the 19th November, 1908, to determine whether the proposal of the Ellerslie Town Board to raise by way of loan the sum of £1,300 for the purpose of purchasing a recreation reserve for the district should be carried or rejected, the votes recorded were as follows: For the proposal, 60; against the proposal, 52; informal votes, 2.
As the votes recorded in favour of the proposal did not amount to three-fifths of the valid votes recorded, I declare the proposal rejected.

BOROUGH OF INVERCARGILL.
In the matter of a special loan of £10,000 proposed to be raised by the Council of the Borough of Invercargill under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” and its amendments.
I HEREBY give notice that on the 4th day of December, 1908, a proposal was submitted by the above-mentioned Council to the ratepayers of the Borough of Invercargill for raising a special loan of £10,000 for and in connection with the repayment of the existing loan, and the constructing, providing, and establishing the public works and engaging in the undertakings and for the purposes mentioned and set forth in the said proposal, which said proposal was published in the Southland Times newspaper of the 23rd and 30th days of October, and the 6th and 13th days of November, 1908; and that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the proposal was as follows: For the proposal, 170 votes; against the proposal, 43 votes; informal, 2 votes. And I declare the said proposal to be carried.

Milk Thistle declared to be a Noxious Weed in the Cook County.—Notice No. 1253.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Cook County Council has, by special order, declared Silybum marianum (milk thistle, variegated thistle, blessed thistle, holy thistle, Maria thistle, or Our Lady’s thistle) to be a noxious weed within the meaning of “The Noxious Weeds Act, 1908,” in the Cook County.

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Government Railways Act, 1908,” I, Joseph George Ward, Acting for Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 10th day of December, 1908:—

- These tickets will be transferred for business purposes temporarily once in any month during their currency from the holder to a member or employee of the same firm or company on payment of a transfer fee of 10s. on the occasion of each transfer. Application for transfer must be made to the District Manager. The ticket to be transferred, together with the transfer fee, 10s., must be deposited when application for transfer is made.
A charge of £1 will be made for each ticket issued in lieu of annual season ticket lost.
Annual season tickets available over lines of both Islands, and annual season tickets available over Middle Island lines, will be available for travel over Lake Wakatipu.
