Maori Land Restrictions Removed




Amending Polling-places under "The Legislature Act, 1908."

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN exercise of the powers conferred upon me by "The Legislature Act, 1908," I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby amend the polling-place as shown against the electoral district the name of which is specified in the following Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

NORTHERN MAORI ELECTORAL DISTRICT.

The Schoolhouse, Waimamaku, to be altered to Naiman's House, Waimamaku.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this seventh day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

Removing Restrictions against Alienation of Native Land.

PLUNKET, Governor.

WHEREAS by section fourteen of "The Maori Land Laws Amendment Act, 1903," it is enacted that, notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any Act, or in any Crown grant or other instrument of title, the Governor may, on the recommendation of the Board, remove any restriction on the alienation of land owned by Maoris; Provided that the decision of the Governor on any recommendation of the Board shall be given within six months from the date of the receipt of such recommendation:

And whereas the Maniapoto-Tuwharetoa District Maori Land Board, by a recommendation made and passed by the said Board on the twenty-fifth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and eight, and received on the twenty-ninth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and eight, recommended the Governor to remove and revoke the restrictions against alienation contained in the instrument of title of the block of land particularised and set out in the Schedule hereto, so far as to enable the same to be mortgaged to a lending department of the Government:

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon and vested in me by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities me thereunto enabling, and in accordance with the recommendation of the Maniapoto-Tuwharetoa District Maori Land Board aforesaid, do hereby remove and revoke the restrictions now existing against the alienation of the said land, so far as to permit the same to be mortgaged as aforesaid.

SCHEDULE.

All that piece or parcel of land in the Ohinewairua Survey District, containing 675 acres, more or less, known as Awarna 2c No. 11, and comprised in a residue order of the Native Land Court dated the 13th day of August, 1896, subject to the restriction that the said land shall be "absolutely inalienable."

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this sixth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon and vested in me by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities me thereunto enabling, and in accordance with the recommendation of the Ikaroa District Maori Land Board aforesaid, do hereby remove and revoke the restrictions now existing against the alienation of the said land, so far as to permit the same to be sold.

SCHEDULE.

All that piece or parcel of land in the Mangahao Survey District, containing 80 acres and 34 perches, more or less, known as Mangatainoka 2BH No. 2D, and comprised in a partition order of the Native Land Court dated the 2nd day of September, 1898, subject to the restriction that the said land "may be leased for any term not exceeding twenty-one years, but shall be otherwise inalienable except with the assent of the Governor."

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this sixth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

And whereas the Tairawhiti District Maori Land Board, by a recommendation made and passed by the said Board on the eleventh day of September, one thousand nine hundred and eight, and received on the fourteenth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and eight, recommended the Governor to remove and revoke the restrictions against alienation contained in the instrument of title of the block of land particularised and set out in the Schedule hereto, for the purpose of mortgage:

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon and vested in me by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities me thereunto enabling, and in accordance with the recommendation of the Tairawhiti District Maori Land Board aforesaid, do hereby remove and revoke the restrictions now existing against the alienation of the said land, so far as to permit the same to be alienated by way of mortgage.

SCHEDULE.

All that piece or parcel of land in the Patutahi Survey District, containing 127 acres 2 roods 18 perches, more or less, known as Papatu A No. 6, and comprised in a partition order of the Native Land Court dated the 1st day of August, 1891, subject to the restriction that the said land shall be "inalienable."

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this sixth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eight.
