½d. in the pound upon the rateable capital value of all rateable property in the Borough of Levin, comprising all that area in the Wellington Land District, situated in Block I, Waiopehu Survey District, bounded towards the north-east by the south-western side of Kawhiu Road from Tirotiro Road to Bartholomew Road; thence towards the south-east by the north-western side of the said Bartholomew Road and the north-western side of that road produced to the south-western boundary-line of Subdivision No. 10, Horowhenua Block; thence towards the south-west by the south-western boundary-line of the said Subdivision No. 10 to the Wellington-Manawatu Railway Reserve; thence by a right line across the said railway reserve and the main road to the north-eastern side of the Horowhenua Beach Road; thence by the north-eastern side of the said Horowhenua Beach Road to a point in a line with the north-western boundary-line of Allotment No. 107, Weraroa Township; thence towards the north-west by a right line to the westernmost corner of the said Allotment No. 107; thence by the north-western boundary-lines of Allotments Nos. 107, 106, 105, and 104, Weraroa Township aforesaid, and the production of the last-mentioned boundary-line across the Makomako Road to the north-eastern side of that road; thence again towards the south-west by the north-eastern side of the said Makomako Road to Tirotiro Road; and thence again towards the north-west by the south-eastern side of the said Tirotiro Road to its junction with the Kawhiu Road aforesaid, the place of commencement: and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of October in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
We hereby certify that the above is a true copy of the special order made at a special meeting of the Levin Borough Council held on the 7th day of September, 1908, the same being duly confirmed at an ordinary meeting of the said Council held on the 5th day of October, 1908.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Opunake Town Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.”

OPUNAKE TOWN BOARD.
In the matter of “The Town Districts Act, 1881,” and of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and of “The Local Elections Act, 1904,” and the amendments thereof respectively.
I HEREBY give public notice that at a poll of the electors in all the sections in Blocks 31, 32, 33, 37, 38, and 39, in the Opunake Town District, taken on the 7th day of October, 1908, on the proposal that a special loan of £600 be raised for the supply of light by means of acetylene gas to the residents, householders, occupiers, and others in and of all the said sections, and of erecting the necessary plant, and constructing the necessary works for such light, and to make an annually recurring special rate of ⅚d. in the pound on the rateable value of all rateable property in the said blocks as security for the interest and sinking fund in connection with the said loan. The whole of the loan to be repayable at the expiration of twenty-one years from the time of raising the same. The interest to be at a rate of not exceeding £6 per centum per annum. The interest not to exceed £5, and the sinking fund not to exceed £1, per centum per annum. And to pay out of the loan-moneys the cost of raising the same.
The votes given were as follows: For the proposal, 22 votes; against the proposal, 2 votes; informal, 1 vote.
And I hereby declare the said proposal to be carried.

SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.
Proposed Loan of £17,000 for Water-races.
I HEREBY give notice that at the poll of ratepayers of the Malvern Water-supply District taken on the 30th September, 1908, to determine whether the proposal of the Selwyn County Council to raise by way of loan a sum of £17,000 for the construction of water-races in the said district should be carried or rejected, the votes recorded were as follows: For the proposal, 202; against the proposal, 162; informal votes, 9.
As the votes recorded in favour of the proposal did not amount to three-fifths of the valid votes recorded, I declare the proposal rejected.

THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand having reasonable ground for supposing that the corporation whose name and address are shown in the Schedule hereunder is engaged in promoting or carrying out a lottery or scheme of chance, it is hereby ordered, under section 28 of “The Post and Telegraph Act, 1908,” that no money-order in favour of the said corporation shall be issued, and that no postal packet addressed to the said corporation (either by its own or any fictitious or assumed name), or to such address without a name, shall be either registered, forwarded, or delivered by the Post Office of New Zealand.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1908,” to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a Courthouse at Auckland, and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the Public Works Office at Auckland, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work, or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works, Wellington.
