FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Stratford County.—Pouatu Survey District.

Weighted with £400, valuation for improvements, consisting of a seven-roomed house (bathroom, two verandahs, two 400-gallon iron tanks, Shacklock range, four open fireplaces). Office, kitchen, and bathroom are lined with tongued-and-grooved lining, and varnished. The other rooms, hall, and passages are papered. The roof is of iron. The kitchen and bathroom have hot and cold water laid on. Wash-house, two outbuildings, and large shed.

The section is situated about eleven miles and a half from Whangamomona Township, on the Ohura Main Road, which is open for dray traffic and partly metalled. The land is flat and undulating, and has been partly cleared of forest, there being about 90 acres of fairly good grass land. The remaining forest comprises rimu, tawa, manuka, &c., and the usual undergrowth. The soil is of good quality, resting upon a formation of papa, and is well watered. Elevation, from 400 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Clifton County.—Mimi Survey District.

Situated on the Okau Road, about nine miles from Tongaporutu Village, with frontage to Tongaporutu River. Section 22 comprises broken country, with birch on spurs, and is covered with heavy forest. Section 23 is level land, covered with heavy bush. The formation is sandstone and papa. The land is well watered. The elevation varies from 50 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Taranaki County.—Cape Survey District.

Weighted with £80, valuation for improvements, consisting of 40 acres felled and in grass.

Situated on the Saunders Road. The access is from Okato, distant about seven miles, half the distance being metalled, the remainder formed dray and bridle road. The land slopes easily, and is intersected by gullies and creeks, and covered with heavy forest, with the exception of about 40 acres felled and grassed. The forest consists of rata, rimu, kahikatea, &c., with a thick undergrowth. The soil is of good quality, on volcanic formation ; well watered. Elevation, 200 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level.

Clifton County.—Upper Waitara Survey District.

Weighted with £70, valuation for improvements, consisting of 35 acres felled and in grass.

Situated on the May Road. The access is by Moki Road from Uruti, distant about nine miles, three miles of which is a formed dray-road, and the remainder formed horse-track. The land is broken, but of fair quality, the formation being papa and sandstone ; well watered. Excepting the 35 acres felled and grassed, the land is covered with a heavy forest, comprising rata, rimu, tawa, hinau, and a dense undergrowth.

Opening Lands in Westland Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “ The Land Act, 1892,” and its amendments, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on Wednesday, the twenty-fifth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and eight ; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on renewable lease only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metals, minerals, or valuable stone ; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “ The Land Act, 1892,” and its amendments.
