WHEREAS His Excellency the Governor is of opinion that the office of Inspector of Fire Brigades under “The Fire Brigades Act, 1908,” is of such a nature that it ought in the public interest to be exempted from the operation of section four of “The Civil Service Act, 1908”:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers vested in him by “The Civil Service Amendment Act, 1908,” and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby exempt the said office of Inspector of Fire Brigades from the operation of section four of “The Civil Service Act, 1908.”

Export Duty on Timber.

IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by “The Timber Export Act, 1908,” and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby revoke the Orders in Council imposing export duties on timber, made under “The Timber Export Act, 1901,” on the twenty-seventh day of March, one thousand nine hundred and two, the tenth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and two, and the twentieth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and three, and published in the Gazette of the third day of April, one thousand nine hundred and two, the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and two, and the twenty-fourth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and three, respectively.
And in lieu thereof doth hereby direct that on and after the first day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eight, there shall be levied, collected, and paid at the Customhouses of the Dominion previous to exportation from New Zealand the duties upon white-pine, kahikatea, and kauri timber as set forth herein, viz.:
ON WHITE-PINE AND KAHIKATEA TIMBERS.
Logs, round .. .. Five shillings per hundred superficial feet.
Logs, cut in half .. .. Five shillings per hundred superficial feet.
Logs, squared with axe or saw, Five shillings per hundred ten inches by ten inches, or superficial feet.

By-laws for the Queenstown Reserves.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of October, 1908.

His Excellency the Governor in Council.
WHEREAS the Queenstown Reserves, as described in the First Schedule hereto, have been brought under the provisions of “The Tourist and Health Resorts Control Act, 1908,” and it is expedient to make by-laws in respect to the management and control of such reserves:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, and in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on him by the said Act and by “The Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908,” doth hereby make the by-laws set forth in the Second Schedule hereto with respect to the management, control, and general regulation of the said reserves.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
ALL that piece or parcel of land lying on the northern shore of Lake Wakatipu, situated in the Town of Queenstown, extending in length from Hay Street to the south-western boundary of the township reserve, and in breadth from high-water mark of lake to a line 1 chain distant from the frontage-lines of Blocks VIII, XXVI, XXVII, and XXVIII, exclusive only of the area occupied by Section No. 1 of Block XVII; also all that piece or parcel of land situated in the Town of Queenstown, and on the north-eastern shore of Queenstown Bay, extending in length from Block XIV to Horne Creek, and in breadth from high-water mark of lake to a line parallel to the frontage-line of Blocks III and XXV, and 1 chain distant from same, exclusive only of the area occupied by Section No. 1 of Block LI; and also all that area in the Otago Land District, containing by admeasurement 27 perches, more or less, being Section No. 2A, Block LI, Town of Queenstown. Bounded towards the north-east by part of Marine Parade, 228 links; towards the south-east by other part of Marine Parade, 87 links; towards the south-west by part of Section No. 74, Block XX (being part of railway wharf reserve), Shotover Survey District, 229 links; and towards the north-west by other part of Marine Parade, 62 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 57015/3, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.
Also all that parcel of land, containing 33 acres 1 rood 11 perches, more or less, situated in the Provincial District of Otago, being the parcel of land described as “Peninsula Reserve” on the record map of the Town of Queenstown, deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, at Dunedin.
Also all that parcel of land situate in the Town of Queenstown, being block numbered 52 on the map of the said town, containing by admeasurement 3 acres 2 roods, more or less. Bounded towards the north-west by Horne Creek, 1220 links; towards the north-east by Camp Street, 310 links; towards the east by Frankton Road, 315 links; towards the south-east by Park Street, 780 links; and towards the south-west by Park Reserve, 239 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less.
SECOND SCHEDULE.
BY-LAWS.

THESE by-laws shall apply to the reserves at Queenstown described in the First Schedule hereof, and the control of which is vested in the Minister of the Crown for the time being having the administration of “The Tourist and Health Resorts Control Act, 1908,” together with the buildings erected and to be erected on such reserves.

The reserves shall be open to the public free of charge, subject to the provisions of these by-laws: Provided that the General Manager may, if deemed expedient, declare the grounds closed, and may direct that, at specified times, a charge be made for admission, such charge not to exceed the sum of one shilling.

No person shall, without the authority of the General Manager or other officer in charge, pick any flower, or break or destroy, injure, or remove any plant, shrub, or tree, growing on land subject to these by-laws; and if any person commits a breach of this by-law he shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five pounds, in addition to paying for the damage done.
