Opening Lands in Nelson Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on Wednesday, the eighteenth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eight; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on renewable lease only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metals, minerals, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”

Limestone country, with fair soil, covered with birch, rimu, and kamahi; about 125 acres towards the north and north-west end of the section is flat. Fronts the Mokihinui-Karamea Road, and distant about seven miles from the St. Helen’s Railway-station by a dray-road and bridle-road.
Inangahua County.—Maruia Survey District.

About 70 acres flat, balance undulating and steep spurs; timbered principally with red and brown birch, with some black and white pine, rimu, totara, and black-birch; under-scrub of broadleaf, fivefinger, maple, pepper-tree, fuschia, &c. Soil good on flats and along creeks, fair on the spurs. Limestone, sandstone, and granite formation; well watered. Distant about twenty-two miles from Murchison by the Maruia Valley and the left bank of the River Buller. A dray-road is now being made and will soon be completed through the North Maruia Block, and a bridle-track will be constructed therefrom to give access to this land.

Removing Restrictions against Alienation of Native Land.
PLUNKET, Governor.
WHEREAS by section fourteen of “The Maori Land Laws Amendment Act, 1903,” it is enacted that, notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any Act, or in any Crown grant or other instrument of title, the Governor may, on the recommendation of the Board, remove any restriction on the alienation of land owned by Maoris: Provided that the decision of the Governor on any recommendation of the Board shall be given within six months from the date of the receipt of such recommendation:
And whereas the Aotea District Maori Land Board, by a recommendation made and passed by the said Board on the twentieth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and eight, and received on the twenty-eighth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and eight, recommended the Governor to remove and revoke the restrictions against alienation contained in the instrument of title of the block of land particularised and set out in the Schedule hereto:
Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon and vested in me by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities me thereunto enabling, and in accordance with the recommendation of the Aotea District Maori Land Board aforesaid, do hereby remove and revoke the restrictions now existing against the alienation of the said land, so far as to permit the same to be sold.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that piece or parcel of land, situate in the Nukumaru Survey District, containing 762 acres 1 rood 19·7 perches, more or less, known as Kai Iwi 5c No. 1, being the whole of the land comprised in certificate of title, Vol. 150, folio 204, of the Register-book of the Wellington District, subject to the restriction that the said land shall be “inalienable by sale, or by lease for a longer period than twenty-one years, or by mortgage, except with the consent of the Governor being previously obtained to every such sale, lease, or mortgage.”
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this seventh day of September, one thousand nine hundred and eight.
