Very rich soil on the terraces for about 20 to 40 chains from the frontage; inferior soil on the higher ground; covered with heavy bush of black-birch and scattered rimu.

The section is suitable for pastoral purposes. Altitude, about 1,350 ft. above sea-level. About 216 acres of swamp land, with good cattle-feed; about 932 acres of undulating bush land, with light red-birch and brown-birch, the soil being light on a clay subsoil. Watered by streams. Accessible from Warwick Junction Accommodation-house by dray-road, a distance of about eight miles, thence by river-bed and unformed road, a further distance of about eleven miles; also accessible from Reefton by about sixteen miles of good dray-road and about fourteen miles of pack-track. Both routes are under construction.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-twenty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint Friday, the thirteenth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eight, as the time at which the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be sold by public auction; and I do hereby fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold as those mentioned in the said Schedule hereto.

Pongaroa is situated on the main Alfredton–Weber Road, at its junction with the Aohanga–Gorge Road. It is about thirty miles from Pahiatua, forty-two miles from Eketahuna, seventeen miles from the Aohanga Landing-place on the east coast, and forty miles from Dannevirke.

Situated at the junction of the Tapuae and Mangapapa Roads, at the southern end of the property known as Marshall’s Run; about fourteen miles and a half from Hunter ville by formed dray-road, about five miles metalled. The south-east and north-east boundaries have been felled from ½ to 1 chain in width and grassed.

Ohinewairua Survey District.
