Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.


PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the eleventh day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eight; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”

Soil a mixed loam and clay, from fair to inferior in quality, on sandstone formation; watered by stream. Situated about four miles from Kaihu Railway-station—two miles and a half dray-road, balance bridle-track.

Soil loam and clay, fair to inferior in quality, on sandstone formation on Section 45, and on limestone formation on the other two sections. Section 45 well watered by stream; other lots indifferently watered by springs and small watercourses. Situated from fourteen to fifteen miles from Mangapai—thirteen miles by formed dray-road, balance bridle-track.

RODNEY COUNTY.—OMAHA PARISH.

Altitude, from 20 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, covered with tea-tree scrub, and light mixed forest containing a few kauri rickers and small puriri-trees, with thick undergrowth of general scrub. Well watered. Soil a grey loam and clay of inferior quality, on clay subsoil. Situated one mile and a half from Leigh Village by main road, and fronting Whangateau Harbour.

WAITEMATA COUNTY.—OKURA PARISH.

Situated on the Hanmer Plains, the greater portion lying from about one mile to two miles and three-quarters west of the Town of Hanmer. With the exception of parts of Sections 1, 2, and 3, which are undulating downs, the sections are flat, and consist generally of light shingly land, with pasture varying from fair to inferior tussock. Portions of the land are covered with stunted manuka, broom, and gorse, and parts of some of the sections lying west of the Chatterton River consist of flax swamp. The altitude varies from about 1,000 ft. to about 1,800 ft. above sea-level. A reserve 20 links wide through Sections 1, 2, and 3, with all necessary rights of access thereto, is reserved to cover the pipe-line of the Hanmer water-supply.
