IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 15 of “The Land Act, 1908,” I, Robert McNab, Minister of Lands, do hereby authorise the laying-off of Donald, William, Lachlan, and Grant Streets, in the Township of Willowbank, Canterbury Land District, of a width of not less than 66 ft. each, instead of 99 ft.

Importation into the Colony of Fiji of Poultry from Auckland prohibited.—Notice No. 1233.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Government of Fiji has prohibited for three months, dating from the 27th day of August, 1908, the importation into the Colony of Fiji of turkeys, ducks, geese, and domestic fowl from or through the City of Auckland.

Agricultural and Pastoral Statistics.—Prescribing the Manner in which the Account under “The Statistics Act, 1908,” shall be taken.—Notice No. 1236.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Statistics Act, 1908,” I, Robert McNab, Minister of Agriculture, hereby prescribe that the collection of the returns in connection with the account referred to in section 20 of the said Act shall be carried out by Sub-enumerators, and shall commence on the 12th day of October, and continue from day to day until the 7th day of November, 1908, unless sooner completed.

THE Wairoa Lodge, No. 78, situated at Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay, is registered as a branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of New Zealand Friendly Society, under “The Friendly Societies Act, 1903,” this 1st day of September, 1908.

Te Makarini Scholarships, held at Te Aute College, Hawke’s Bay.
THREE scholarships of the yearly value of £35, tenable for two years, are offered for competition. One of these scholarships, to be called the senior scholarship, is open to all Maori boys not over sixteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination: the other two scholarships are junior scholarships, one of which is open to all Maori boys under fifteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination who have attended a Native school or schools under the control of the Education Department, and whose attendance at school during the previous year is considered by the Inspector of Native Schools to have been satisfactory; the other is open on similar conditions to Maori boys whose attendance at any school other than Te Aute and St. Stephen’s during the previous year has been satisfactory. The scholarships are open to Maori boys on the conditions laid down in the regulations of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund, as printed in the Appendix to the Native Schools Code, 1908. The examination will be held at convenient centres on the 7th and 8th of December, 1908.
Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers, send notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education Department, Wellington, of their intention to present themselves for examination. Such notice must be posted so as to reach the Department not later than the 26th of October, 1908.
Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be obtained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Secretary for Education, Wellington.
