Education Board of the District of North Canterbury.—Election of Members.

IN accordance with the provisions of section 24 of “The Education Act, 1908,” I hereby give notice that the number of valid votes recorded for the several candidates at the election of members of the Education Board of the District of North Canterbury, held on the 27th day of July, 1908, is as follows, to wit :—

South Ward—
Peryman, Henry William .. .. .. 334
Langford, Herbert .. .. .. 72
Radcliffe, William .. .. .. 31

The total number of valid votes recorded is 437. The total number of votes rejected as informal is 23.

Central Ward—
Opie, Charles Henry Adolphus Truscott .. 62
Bernstein, Rev. Isaac Amber .. 43

The total number of valid votes recorded is 105. The total number of votes rejected as informal is 4.

I therefore hereby declare the said HENRY WILLIAM PERYMAN to be duly elected member of the Education Board of the District of North Canterbury for the South Ward, and the said CHARLES HENRY ADOLPHUS TRUSCOTT OPIE to be duly elected member of the said Board for the Central Ward.
I hereby further declare that THOMAS WILLIAM ADAMS, being the only nominated candidate for the North Ward, has been duly elected a member of the Education Board of the District of North Canterbury for the said ward.

Education Board of the District of South Canterbury.—Election of Members.

IT is hereby notified, in accordance with the provisions of section 24 of “The Education Act, 1908,” that the following candidates have been duly nominated for election as members of the Education Board of the District of South Canterbury :—

North Ward: George Whitefield Armitage.
Middle Ward: Charles Smith Howard.
South Ward: George Lyall.

As the number of duly nominated candidates in each case is equal to the number of persons to be elected, I hereby declare Messrs. ARMITAGE, HOWARD, and LYALL duly elected members of the Board.

NORTHERN WARD.

IN accordance with section 24 of “The Education Act, 1908,” it is hereby notified that

ANDREW MCKERROW, Esq.,

has been duly elected a member of the Education Board of the District of Otago for the Northern Ward.

The number of valid votes recorded for each candidate was,—

The total number of valid votes recorded was 377. The total number of voting-papers rejected as informal was 9.

CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN WARDS.

In accordance with section 24 of “The Education Act, 1908,” it is hereby notified that

The Rev. Philadelphus Bain Fraser, M.A.,

being the only duly nominated candidates for the vacancies in the Central and Southern Wards respectively, I declare the said THOMAS FERGUS and PHILADELPHUS BAIN FRASER, M.A., to be duly elected members of the Education Board of the District of Otago for the Central and Southern Wards respectively.

IN pursuance of the provisions of section 24 of “The Education Act, 1908,” it is hereby publicly notified that the following gentlemen have been duly elected as members of the Education Board of the District of Southland for the Central and East Wards respectively :—

Central Ward—
HAROLD FRANCIS SHERWOOD KING, Esq., of Invercargill.

The number of valid votes recorded for each candidate was as follows :—

Stirling, William Neilson .. .. 55

The total number of valid votes recorded was 178. The total number of votes rejected as informal was 6.

East Ward—
GEORGE JAMES ANDERSON, Esq., of Gore.

The number of votes recorded for each candidate was as follows :—

Marsh, William Joseph .. .. .. 145

The total number of valid votes recorded was 312. The total number of votes rejected as informal was 9.

It is further notified that JOHN FISHER, being the only nominated candidate, has been duly elected for the West Ward.

Reserves in Taranaki Land District for Lease by Public Auction.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned reserves will be offered for lease by public auction, at the Courthouse, Opunake, at 10 o’clock a.m. on Wednesday, the 21st October, 1908, under the provisions of “The Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908.”

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

  1. Six months’ rent, together with £1 1s. lease fee, must be paid on the fall of the hammer.
  2. There are no restrictions or limitations as to the number of sections which one person may lease, and no declaration is required. Residence is not compulsory. No compensation shall be claimed by the lessee, nor shall any be allowed by the Government, on account of any improvements effected by the lessee, nor for any other cause.
  3. Possession will be given on the day of sale.
  4. The leases shall be for the term of years specified, but shall be subject to termination by twelve months’ notice in the event of the land being required by the Government.
  5. The rent shall be payable half-yearly in advance.
  6. The lessee shall have no right to sublet, transfer, or otherwise dispose of the land comprised in the lease, except with the written consent of the Commissioner of Crown Lands first had and obtained.
  7. The land shall not be cropped nor broken up, except with the written consent of the Commissioner of Crown Lands first had and obtained.
  8. The lessee shall prevent the growth and spread of gorse, broom, and sweetbriar on the land comprised in the lease; and he shall with all reasonable despatch remove, or cause
