of the said borough by the construction of water-race, dams,
pipe-lines, and other necessary works in connection with
water-race held by the said borough out of Butcher's Gully
under License No. 1008A, the said Alexandra Borough Coun-
cil hereby makes and levies a special rate of 3d. in the pound
upon the rateable value of all rateable property in the Borough
of Alexandra, comprising all that area known as the Borough
of Alexandra—bounded towards the north-west by Block VII,
Leaning Rock Survey District, 11919 links; towards the
north-east by Block VII, Leaning Rock Survey District,
7615 links; towards the east by the Manuherikia River,
8800 links; and towards the south by the Clutha River,
11000 links: and that such special rate shall be an annual-
recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be pay-
able half-yearly on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of
July in each and every year during the currency of such loan,
being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully
paid off.

We hereby certify that the above is a true copy of the
special order passed at a special meeting of the Alexandra
Borough Council held on the 16th day of June, 1908, and
duly confirmed at a subsequent special meeting of the Coun-
cil held on the 20th day of July, 1908.

THE following special orders, made by the Lake County
Council, are published in accordance with the pro-
visions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

LAKE COUNTY COUNCIL.

Special Order re Shotover Bridge.

THAT the Council of Lake County, in pursuance and exercise
of the powers vested in it by “The Public Works Act, 1905,”
and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and its amend-
ments, and all other powers and authorities enabling it in
that behalf, doth hereby resolve by special order that a loan
of £4,000 be raised, to be applied and paid exclusively to-
wards the construction of a bridge (authorised to be con-
structed by a Warrant dated the 2nd day of January, 1908,
issued under the hand of His Excellency the Governor, under
section 118 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” which Warrant
has been duly notified, and also gazetted on page 272 of the
New Zealand Gazette, 1908), known as the Shotover Bridge,
Lake County, at a point situated about 36 chains above the
site of the existing bridge across the said Shotover River, and
about one mile above the junction of the said river with
Kawarau River, to connect the road leading from Queens-
town to Arrowtown, via Lake Hayes (as the site of the said
bridge is delineated on the plan marked R. 6233, deposited
in the office of the Chief Engineer of Roads, at Wellington,
in the Wellington Land District, and thereon shown in red
colour), and towards the construction of the approaches to
such bridge, and towards the cost of raising the loan and the
first year’s interest on such loan during the construction of
the said bridge and approaches thereto. The term of the
loan will be twenty-six years from the date when such loan
is made. The amount of the said loan shall be repayable
by half-yearly instalments on the 1st day of February and
August in each and every year until such loan is fully paid
off, and the interest on such loan at the rate of 4½ per
centum per annum shall be payable on the said 1st day
of February and August in each and every year during the
currency of such loan. The amount to be set apart in
each year towards the paying-off the loan is £200, and the
security to be pledged for such loan is the revenue to be
derived from a special annual-recurring rate during the cur-
rency of such loan of ³⁄₁₆d. in the pound on the rateable value
of all rateable property in the whole of Lake County, the
boundaries of which county are as follows—bounded towards
the north by the County of Westland from the mouth of the
Awara River to Mount Alba; towards the east by the
County of Vincent from Mount Alba to Lorne Peak, thence
along the summit of the Hector Mountains southerly to the
centre of the Mataura River, by the centre of the Mataura
River to its source near Eyre Peak, thence by a right line to
Eyre Peak, thence by a right line to Jane Peak, thence to
Hummock Peak, thence by the summit of the watershed by
Mount Look-up and the Thomson Range to Round Peaks,

thence by right lines over Moffat Peak to Mount Eglington,
thence along the summit of the Earl Mountains to a point
in line with the Castle Mountain and Cloudy Pass, thence
by a right line over The Castle to Cloudy Pass, and thence
by the ocean to the mouth of the Awarua, the starting-
point: and such rate shall be payable half-yearly on the 1st
day of February and the 1st day of August in each and
every year during the currency of such loan, being a period
of twenty-six years, or until such loan is fully paid off.

The above special order was duly passed by the Lake
County Council at a special meeting held by it at the Coun-
cil Chambers, at Queenstown, on the 25th day of February,
1908, and was duly confirmed by the said Council at a
special meeting held by it at the Council Chambers, at
Queenstown, on the 7th day of April, 1908.

Dated this 7th day of April, 1908.

The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and In-
habitants of Lake County was hereto affixed by the autho-
rity and under the resolution passed by the Lake County
Council at its meeting held at Queenstown on this 7th day
of April, 1908, in the presence of—
