said colony, or by Proclamation, that such Bill has been
laid before the Sovereign in Council, and that the Sovereign
has been pleased to assent to the same :

And whereas by an Order in Council of the ninth day
of September, one thousand nine hundred and seven, His
Majesty was pleased to approve the draft of a Proclamation
substituting the title of the Dominion of New Zealand for
that of the Colony of New Zealand as the designation of the
said colony :

And whereas a certain Bill passed by the Legislative
Council and House of Representatives of the said Dominion,
entitled " An Act to amend the Chinese Immigrants Act,
1881," the short title whereof is the Chinese Immigrants
Amendment Act, 1907, was presented to the Governor of the
said Dominion for His Majesty's assent, and was reserved
for the signification of His Majesty's pleasure thereon :

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Go-
vernor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance of
the provisions of the said in-part-recited Act, do hereby
proclaim and declare that the Chinese Immigrants Amend-
ment Act, 1907, aforesaid has been laid before His Majesty
in Council, and that His Majesty has been pleased to assent
to the same.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right
Honourable William Lee, Baron Plunket, Knight
Commander of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George, Knight
Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Go-
vernor and Commander - in - Chief in and over
His Majesty's Dominion of New Zealand and its
Dependencies ; and issued under the Seal of the
said Dominion, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this sixteenth day of July, in the
year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and
eight.

Appointing a District Valuer under "The Government
Valuation of Land Act, 1896."

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-
third day of June, 1908.

Present :
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR J. G. WARD, K.C.M.G.,
PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
vested in him by "The Government Valuation of Land
Act, 1896," His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion
of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby
appoint

ALBERT ERNEST BARNS

to be a District Valuer under the said Act.

Land taken for a Native School at Reporua.

PLUNKET, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-
third day of June, 1908.

Present :
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR J. G. WARD, K.C.M.G.,
PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto
is required for a certain public work, to wit, a
Native school: •

And whereas the Native owners have agreed to make a
free gift of the said land to His Majesty the King, and it
has been made to appear that such agreement is sufficient
for the purposes intended to be effected thereby :

And whereas by a partition order made by the Native
Land Court, bearing date the second day of August, one
thousand eight hundred and ninety-four, certain aboriginal
Natives are declared to be the owners of the Reporua No. 3
Block, within which the said land is situated:

And whereas, as required by "The Public Works Acts
Compilation Act, 1905," a map has been prepared show-
ing accurately the position and extent of the said land, and
such map is hereto attached :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Do-
minion of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the
powers and authorities conferred by "The Public Works
Acts Compilation Act, 1905," and acting by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
Dominion, doth hereby order and declare that the land shown
upon the said map and described in the Schedule hereto is
hereby taken for the purposes of the said Native school,
and shall vest in His Majesty the King, as from the
twenty-ninth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and
eight.

Native Lands taken for the Purposes of a Road in Paerata
Blocks 1 and 2, Blocks III and IV, Maungaru Survey
District, Hobson County.

PLUNKET, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this fourteenth
day of July, 1908.

Present :
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto
are required to be taken for a public work, to wit,
for the purposes of a road in Paerata Blocks 1 and 2,
Blocks III and IV, Maungaru Survey District :

And whereas the said lands are held or occupied by Native
owners under a title which is not derived from the Crown :

And whereas a map in duplicate has been prepared of the
said lands, as required by the eighty-ninth section of "The
Public Works Act, 1905" :

Now, therefore, in pursuance and in exercise of the powers
vested in him by the eighty-ninth section of the said Act, and
of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His
Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand,
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby declare that the
lands shown upon such map, and described in the Schedule
hereto, shall be deemed to be taken for the purposes of the
said road as from the twentieth day of August, one thou-
sand nine hundred and eight.
