SAN FRANCISCO BAY APPROACH.—SHOAL SOUNDINGS.—Information has been received from Mr. R. P. Schwerin, Vice-President and General Manager of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, that the master of the steamer “Mongolia” of that line reports the existence of an uncharted shoal two or three miles in extent, with depths of from 17 to 11 fathoms, rocky bottom, about 17¼ miles S. 29° W. true (S. by W. mag.) from S.E. Farallon Lighthouse, San Francisco Bay approach, California.

MAGELLAN STRAIT.—DESOLATION ISLAND.—FELIX POINT LIGHT.—CORRECTED POSITION.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 44 (2009) of 1907, the Chilean Government has given further notice that Felix Point light, Magellan Strait, is not located on the peninsula which forms the eastern side of Felix Bay, but on the largest and most easterly of the four islands located to the eastward of the bay.
Felix Cove, to the southward of the island, affords good anchorage, with protection from local winds, in 12 fathoms of water, rocky bottom.
Approx. position on H.O. Chart No. 446 : Lat. 52° 58′ 00″ S., long. 74° 04′ 45″ W.
Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of Chemists’ and Druggists’ Shops in the Borough of Invercargill.
WHEREAS by notice dated the 10th day of July, 1905, and gazetted on the 13th day of July, 1905, the Minister of Labour, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and acting in accordance with a requisition duly made and certified as required by that section, did direct that from and after the 17th day of July, 1905, all chemists’ and druggists’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill should be closed at 8.30 o’clock in the evening of Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 10 o’clock in the evening on Saturdays, and at 1 o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesdays, excepting on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when the hour of closing should be 11 p.m. : And whereas by a like requisition, duly made and certified as aforesaid, he has been requested to vary the said notice by fixing the hours for closing on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday nights at 8 o’clock :
Now, therefore, in compliance with the last-mentioned requisition, and in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, do hereby vary the said notice by directing that on and after the 1st day of July, 1908, all chemists’ and druggists’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

THE Taranaki Public School Cadet Battalion is reorganized as follows:—
The No. 1 Taranaki Public School Cadet Battalion, consisting of Central No. 1 Company, Central No. 2 Company, West End, Waitara, Fitzroy, Bell Block cum Egmont Road, Opunaki, Okato, Urenui. Major F. W. Sandford to command the battalion.
The No. 2 Taranaki Public School Cadet Battalion, consisting of Stratford No. 1 Company, Stratford No. 2 Company, Inglewood, Ngaire. Major W. J. Evans to command the battalion.
The undermentioned public-school cadet companies and detachments are recognised under the regulations published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 16th August, 1906:—
