more or less, known as Waikatea Native Reserve, Section 3,
and comprised in certificate of title, Vol. 12, folio 249, of
the said Register-book of the Poverty Bay District.

  1. All that piece or parcel of land in the Opoiti Survey
    District, containing 202 acres 2 roods, more or less, known
    as Makareao Native Reserve, Section 2, and comprised in
    certificate of title, Vol. 12, folio 240, of the said Register-
    book of the Poverty Bay District.

  2. All that piece or parcel of land in the said Opoiti
    Survey District, containing 324 acres, more or less, known
    as Tarake Native Reserve, Section 3, and comprised in cer-
    tificate of title, Vol. 12, folio 245, of the said Register-book
    of the Poverty Bay District.

All of which said certificates of title contain the restric-
tion that the lands comprised therein shall be “inalienable
by sale or mortgage, or by lease for a longer period than
twenty-one years, except with the consent of the Governor
previously obtained.”

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this second day of May, one thousand nine hun-
dred and eight.

Modifying Deposited Plan of Native Township.

PLUNKET, Governor.

WHEREAS by section two of “The Native Townships
Amendment Act, 1903,” it is provided that, not-
withstanding anything to the contrary in “The Native
Townships Act, 1895” (hereinafter referred to as “the said
Act”), the Governor may at any time, on the advice and
report of the Minister of Native Affairs, modify or alter the
deposited plan of any Native township, and may, by notice
in the Gazette and Kahiti, direct that the purpose for which
any lands are vested in His Majesty as prescribed by sec-
tion twelve of the said Act may be changed to some other
or others of such purposes :

And whereas the Minister of Native Affairs has advised
and reported that it is expedient that the deposited plan of
the Te Puia Native Township should be modified or altered
as aforesaid :

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the
Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of
the powers conferred upon me as aforesaid, do hereby
modify and alter the deposited plan of the said Te Puia
Native Township by extending O’Rorke Street from its pre-
sent junction with Carroll Street to McKenzie Street.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this second day of May, one thousand nine hun-
dred and eight.

Powers delegated to the Kennedy’s Bush Scenic Board under
“The Scenery Preservation Act, 1903.”

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in him by section eight of “The Scenery Preser-
vation Act, 1903,” His Excellency the Governor of the
Dominion of New Zealand doth hereby vest the control of
the reserve described in the Schedule below (being land re-
served under the said Act), for the period of three years from
the date hereof (unless previously altered or revoked under
the said Act), in the undermentioned persons, who shall be
known as the Kennedy’s Bush Scenic Board, namely,—

The Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Canterbury
Land District (ex officio),
Henry George Ell, Esq., M.P., Christchurch,
Leonard Cockayne, Esq., Ph.D., Linwood,
William Reece, Esq., Christchurch,
George Thomas Booth, Esq., New Brighton, and
George Harper, Esq., Riccarton

(herein referred to as “the Board”), in trust for the preser-
vation of scenery, and subject to the conditions hereinafter
contained, that is to say,—

MEETINGS.

  1. The Board shall meet for the transaction of business
    on the first Tuesday in each month, at half past three
    o’clock p.m., at the District Lands Office, Christchurch, or
    at such other time or place as may from time to time be fixed
    by the Board. The first meeting shall be held on Monday,
    the eighteenth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and
    eight.

  2. Special meetings may be convened by the Chairman,
    provided that two days’ notice of such meeting be given to
    each member, specifying the business to be transacted at
    such special meeting; and no other business than that so
    specified shall be transacted at such meeting.

  3. Any four members of the Board shall form a quorum.
    Any meeting may be adjourned from time to time.

  4. The Commissioner of Crown Lands shall be the Chair-
    man of the Board, and shall have an original as well as a
    casting vote.

  5. The Board shall prepare and submit at an annual
    meeting to be held in the month of April in each year a
    report of the proceedings of the Board for the previous year
    ending on the thirty-first day of March, together with a
    statement of the receipts and expenditure of the Board for
    such year. A copy of every such report and statement,
    certified by the Chairman to be correct, shall be sent to the
    Minister of Lands as soon as possible after each annual
    meeting.

  6. If at any meeting the Chairman is not present at the
    time appointed for holding the same, the members present
    shall choose some one of their number to be chairman of
    such meeting.

  7. If, by resignation, death, incapacity, or otherwise, the
    seat of any member shall be or become vacant, or if any
    member absents himself, without reasonable cause, from
    three consecutive meetings of the Board, the Governor shall
    have power to appoint any other person to be a member of
    the Board in his stead.

  8. All questions shall be determined by the majority of
    votes of the members of the Board present at a meeting.


SCHEDULE.

KENNEDY’S BUSH SCENIC RESERVE.

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing
by admeasurement 97 acres, more or less, being Reserves
Nos. 3735 and 3735A (in red), and forming parts of Rural Sec-
tions 33742, 886, 485, 522, 6390, 30503, and 818, situated in
Block III, Halswell Survey District, and bounded as follows :
Commencing at the north-eastern corner of Rural Sec-
tion 818 ; thence bounded on the eastward by right lines
aggregating 4403·1 links ; on the south by right lines aggre-
gating 5844·8 links ; on the west by right lines aggregating
4173·9 links ; and on the north-east by a road-line forming
part of northern boundary of Rural Section 30503, a distance
of 710 links, to the point of commencement : save and except
therefrom a small piece of road on the western boundary of
Rural Section 818 : as the same is delineated upon the plan
marked L. and S. 54910/71, deposited in the Head Office,
Department of Lands, at Wellington, and thereon bordered
green and red.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this fourth day of May, one thousand nine hun-
dred and eight.

Taieri Drainage Board.—Appointment of Returning Officer
and Notice re Members.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN exercise of the power conferred by section four of
the Taieri Land Drainage Act, 1907, His Excellency
the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand doth hereby
appoint

FREDERICK JOHN MOUAT, Department of Lands, Dun-
edin,

to be Returning Officer to hold the first election of members
of the Taieri Drainage Board ; and doth hereby notify and
declare that the first members of the said Drainage Board
elected and appointed under the said Act shall come into
office on Wednesday, the twenty-seventh day of May, one
thousand nine hundred and eight, and that the first meeting
of the said Board shall be held at the District Lands Office,
Dunedin, on the date last mentioned.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this fourth day of May, one thousand nine hun-
dred and eight.
