Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of Roads through Kinohaku East No. 2 Block, Auckland Land District.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” that the roads described in the Schedule hereto were duly taken and laid off through the lands specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 27th November, 1905.

Authorising the Laying-off of Ford Street and Paparoa Street, in the Township of Roa, of a Width of not less than 66 ft. each.

IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 2 of “The Towns Main Streets Act, 1902,” I, Robert McNab, Minister of Lands, do hereby authorise the laying-off of Ford and Paparoa Streets, in the Township of Roa, Westland Land District, of a width of not less than 66 ft. each, instead of 99 ft. as prescribed by section 17 of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Gorse declared to be a Noxious Weed in the Otamatea County.—Notice No. 1193.

Additional Rules as to Life-saving Appliances for Ships.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-fifth day of April, 1908.

Present:

PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the sixth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and three, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 56, of the ninth day of the same month, rules were made as to life-saving appliances for ships:
And whereas it is desirable to make additional rules:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the power and authority conferred upon him by section one hundred and ninety-seven of “The Shipping and Seamen Act, 1903,” and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby make the following additional rules as to life-saving appliances for ships, and doth order that they shall come and be in force on and after the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and nine.

RULES.

  1. All lifebelts, with the exception mentioned in paragraph 2, which are inspected for the first time after the 1st January, 1909, must comply at least with the following requirements in the matter of length, covers, tapes, sewing, cork, and marking:—

Length.—The belts are to be at least 50 in. long from outside of cork to outside of cork.

Covers.—The covers are to be made of all-linen Tecklenburg, weighing not less than 6 oz. to the yard, with a width of 27 in.

Tapes.—The tapes are to be of linen-thread web 1¼ in. wide, and capable of bearing a strain of 200 lb.
The ends of the tapes where they are attached to the covers are to be doubled, and the ends are to be displayed.
The free length of each tying-tape is to be 38 in.
The shoulder-connection is to consist of a loop of a free length of 3 in. on one side, and a strap 30 in. long on the other.

Sewing.—The tops of the covers are to be sewn with material which is to be doubled, and of not less strength than No. 25a five-cord Whittemore cord.
All other sewing is to be made with linen thread not less than No. 50.

Cork.—There shall be not more than ten pockets in a belt; and if more than one piece of cork is used in any pocket the following rules shall be complied with, viz.:—
(a.) If the cork is put in lengthways, not more than two pieces may be used in each pocket, and each piece must be the full length of the pocket and not less than half the width.
