SOUTH AMERICA.

RIO DE LA PLATA.—On 23rd July, 1907, the lt.-v. “Recalada” was to be shifted to approx. 35° 10¾′ S., 56° 42′ W. The “Indio Point” lt.-v. (35° 7¼′ S., 57° 6¼′ W.) was to be temp. replaced by the “Intermedio” lt.-v., exh. a F. white lt., elev. 49 ft., R. 14 miles, and a white lt. is shown astern, also carrying a fog-siren worked by hand. The lt.-v. “Intermedio” (34° 58¼′ S., 57° 16½′ W.) was to be temp. replaced by “La Uruguay,” with 3 masts, and yellow funnel between the main and mizzen masts, exh. a F. white lt., elev. 39 ft., R. 3 miles, and carrying a fog-siren worked by hand. Nov.

MONTE VIDEO.—An isl., black jagged rks., nearly awash at H.W., about 240 yds. long and 100 yds. wide, exists in the vicinity of Monte Video, and has been named Sydney Isl., and charted in approx. 34° 48¼′ S., 55° 32½′ W. Nov.

PORT OF NEWCASTLE.

Notice to Mariners.

IT is hereby notified for general information that, to mark the position of the Inner Reef and Stony Point, near the entrance to the Port of Newcastle, a 30-day Wigham sector fixed red light has been erected on the outer edge of the reef, in 2¼ fathoms, and will be exhibited on and after the 11th instant. The height of the light above low water, springs, is 27 ft. 10 in., and it is distant 400 ft. from the fairway, Nobbys bearing S. 77° E. The arc of illumination is 162° 45′ from N. 39° 45′ E. to S. 57° W.; light obscured from N. 39° 45′ E. round by east to south 57° W.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of certain Shops in the Borough of Grey Lynn under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the hatters’, mercers’, tailors’, and clothiers’ shops in the Borough of Grey Lynn, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed at 1 o’clock p.m. on the statutory half-holiday; 9 o’clock p.m. on one day, which shall be Friday in the case of those observing Saturday as the half-holiday, and Saturday in the case of those observing Wednesday as the half-holiday; and at 6 o’clock p.m. on the evening of the other four days in the week: And whereas the Borough Council of Grey Lynn has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the hatters’, mercers’, tailors’, and clothiers’ shops respectively in the borough:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” and section 4 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1907,” do hereby direct that from and after the 20th day of January, 1908, all the hatters’, mercers’, tailors’, and clothiers’ shops respectively (including all shops carrying on two or more of such businesses conjointly) in the Borough of Grey Lynn shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ saloons in the City of Auckland, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed at 1 p.m. on the statutory half-holiday; 10 p.m. on one day, which shall be Wednesday in the case of those observing Saturday as the half-holiday, and Saturday in the case of those observing Wednesday as the half-holiday; and at 8 p.m. on the other four working-days in the week, except on the day previous to a public holiday, when the closing-time shall be 10 p.m.: and whereas the City Council of Auckland has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ saloons in the city:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” and section 4 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1907,” do hereby direct that from and after the 20th day of January, 1908, all the hairdressers’ saloons in the City of Auckland shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.
