Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, doth hereby constitute and appoint

Lieutenant-Colonel James Paton Watt, 1st Regiment, Wellington (West Coast) Mounted Rifle Volunteers;
Acting-Major Harry Norman Liardet, 1st Regiment, Wellington (West Coast) Mounted Rifle Volunteers; and
Captain Frederick George Kimbell, Active List,

to be Trustees of all that parcel of land in the Taranaki Land District being portions of Sections Nos. 20, 21, and 118, Block II, Ngaiere Survey District, containing together 23 acres and 6 perches, more or less; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 20951, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington, and thereon coloured green, purple, and green respectively: together with all buildings erected thereon: to hold the said several premises for the purpose of maintaining a rifle range for Volunteer purposes, and generally for the purposes of and with the powers conferred by the said Acts. And it is hereby declared that the said Trustees shall be incorporated under the name of “The Trustees of the Stratford Rifle-range Reserve,” and that they shall take office as such Trustees on the ninth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this ninth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

Appointment of Trustees, Dannevirke Rifle-range Reserve.


PLUNKET, Governor.

IN exercise and pursuance of the power and authority conferred by “The Volunteer Drill-sheds and Lands Act, 1888,” “The Volunteer Drill-sheds and Lands Trustees Validation Act, 1890,” and the Defence Act Amendment Act, 1907 (hereinafter termed “the said Acts”), His Excellency the Right Honourable William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, doth hereby constitute and appoint:

Lieutenant-Colonel John Drummond, 5th Battalion, Wellington (Centre or Ruahine) Rifle Volunteers;
Lieutenant John Cattanach Davidson, Dannevirke Rifle Volunteers;
Francis John Knight, Esq.; and
Ethelbert Alfred Ransom, Esq.,

to be Trustees of all that parcel of land in the Hawke’s Bay Land District being Lot 1 of Section 10, Umutaoroa Block; Lot 2 of Section 10, Umutaoroa Block; and Lot 1 of Tahoraite No. 2 Block, Block II, Tahoraite Survey District, containing together 17 acres and 23·2 perches, more or less; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 20677, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington, and thereon coloured green, yellow, and red respectively: together with all buildings erected thereon: to hold the said several premises for the purpose of maintaining a rifle range for Volunteer purposes, and generally for the purposes of and with the powers conferred by the said Acts. And it is hereby declared that the said Trustees shall be incorporated under the name of “The Trustees of the Dannevirke Rifle-range Reserve,” and that they shall take office as such Trustees on the tenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

Volunteer Regulations amended.


PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by “The Defence Act, 1886,” and its amendments, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby revoke and amend the General Regulations of the Defence Forces of New Zealand, made on the eighth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and six, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the same date, in the manner and to the extent set forth in the Schedule hereto; and I do hereby declare that such revocation shall take effect, and such amendments shall come into force, on the ninth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and eight.


SCHEDULE.

REGULATION 3, (h), Cadets: Omit the whole of the paragraph, and substitute the following:—

(h.) Cadets.

Cadet companies in connection with colleges and high schools may be formed into battalions, the minimum number of companies forming such battalion being three. On the formation of battalions the staff shall be provided by the schools.

Two companies of artillery cadets and one company of engineer cadets may be formed in each of the four principal districts. Where such companies are formed one company of artillery cadets shall be attached to the division of garrison artillery Volunteers, and the other company to the battery of field artillery Volunteers, in the military district to which they belong. The company of engineer cadets shall be attached to the companies of engineer Volunteers in the military district to which it belongs.

Both the artillery and engineer cadet companies are to be exercised in the same musketry course as laid down for infantry cadet companies. The organization and drill shall be that of the arm of the service to which they are attached.

To earn capitation the following conditions must be complied with:—

(i.) Each member of a cadet corps must attend during the Volunteer year at least twenty-four parades, each of which shall be of at least one hour’s duration.

(ii.) Each member must be exercised in the annual musketry course as laid down for that year by the Council of Defence.

(iii.) The company must be up to or above the minimum strength.

(iv.) At least twenty-five members must qualify for capitation.

Cadet companies other than those mentioned above shall be attached to adult Volunteer companies or battalions in the district in which they are serving.

Vaccination Districts constituted.


PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in the Governor by “The Public Health Act, 1900,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby abolish the existing vaccination district known as the Te Aroha District, and do declare that the territory heretofore comprised within the said district is hereby divided anew into two vaccination districts, the names whereof shall be the Morrinsville District and the Te Aroha District, and the boundaries whereof shall be coterminous with the boundaries of the marriage districts bearing the same names, as are set forth in a Proclamation bearing date the twentieth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and eight, made under the provisions of “The Marriage Act, 1904,” and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 15, of the twenty-seventh day of the same month, page 734.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this fourteenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and eight.
