Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1892,” and its amendments, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section one hundred and thirty-six of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the twenty-sixth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and eight; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Altitude, about sea-level. Level land, being reclaimed swamp, covered with rushes, flax, and raupo; alluvial soil of very good quality; good water can be obtained by sinking artesian wells, but there is no surface water. Situated about half a mile from proposed new wharf and adjoining Mapau Township.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Hokianga County.—Waipoua Survey District.

Altitude, from 800 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level. All forest land, undulating to broken. Forest comprises towai, birch, kohekohe, miro, taraire, with heavy undergrowth of kiekie and supplejack. Soil a mixed loam and clay, resting on semi-sandstone formation; well watered by small streams. Access from Kaihu, about ten miles by formed road.

Soil a mixed clay and loam of fair quality, on clay-and-stony subsoil; well watered by stream. Situated about eight miles from Kaihu Railway-station by good dray-road.

Altitude, 1,000 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Level to undulating land; 45 acres felled and grassed, balance mixed forest, comprising taraire, towai, birch, totara, puriri, and manuka, with undergrowth of kiekie and shrubs. Soil semi-volcanic and loam, on clay-and-stony subsoil; watered by springs. Situated in the Katui Settlement, eleven miles from Kaihu Railway-station by dray-road.

Mostly undulating land; part a little broken; 50 acres felled and grassed, balance mixed forest, comprising puriri, totara, towai, taraire, birch, and kohekohe, with undergrowth of supplejacks and kiekie. Soil a mixed loam and clay of fair quality, on semi-volcanic formation; watered by stream. Situated six miles from Kaihu Railway-station by dray-road.

Hokianga County.—Tutamoe Survey District.

Level and undulating land, covered with mixed forest, comprising rimu, taraire, towai, kohekohe, miro, and rata, with light undergrowth of kiekie, supplejack, and shrubs, except 40 acres felled; soil a mixed loam and clay of fair quality, on clay-and-stony subsoil; well watered by swamps and small streams. Situated eleven miles from Kaihu Railway-station, on main Kaihu-Hokianga dray-road.

Whangarei County.—Maungatapere Parish.

Whangarei County.—Waipu Parish.

About 25,000 superficial feet of kauri, useful for building and fencing. Soil a mixed loam and clay, fair to inferior quality, on clay subsoil; watered by small streams. Situated about eight miles from Mangawai by dray-road.

Whangarei County.—Ruarangi Parish.

Situated about eight miles from Mangapai by dray-road.
