BRAZIL.

RIO DE JANEIRO BAY.—GOVERNADOR ISLAND.—SOUTH COAST.—CANHANHA ROCK.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—The Brazilian Government has given notice that on 2nd August, 1907, a flashing white light, showing 1 flash every 4 seconds, was exhibited 43 ft. above high water on a post erected on Canhanha Rock, off Galeao Point, south coast of Governador Island, Rio de Janeiro Bay.

Approx. position : Lat. 22° 50′ 15″ S., long. 43° 13′ 20″ W.

CAPE FLATTERY.—TATOOOSH ISLAND.—WIRELESS TELEGRAPH STATION.—A United States naval wireless telegraph station has been established on Tatoosh Island, Cape Flattery. Call-letters, SV.

MALACCA STRAIT.

PULO PENANG.—SHOAL TO SOUTHWARD.—The Japanese Government has given notice that the master of the steamer “Bandai Maru” reports that on 12th July, 1907, at 10 p.m., his vessel struck on a shoal having a depth of 2½ fathoms over it, located southward of Pulo Penang, Malacca Strait, on the following bearings :—

Bukit Panchor, N. 78° 20′ E. true (E.N.E. ¾ E. mag.).
Pulo Kondi, N. 28° 40′ W. true (N.N.W. ¾ W. mag.).
South Kra Island, N. 37° 20′ E. true (N.E. ¾ N. mag.).

The shoal lies about 2 miles off the south-western extreme of Great Kra Flat. It seems probable, therefore, that this flat has extended some distance to the westward of its charted position.

The master also states that at the time of striking the weather was fine, with a light breeze blowing from the westward, and that it was about two hours before high water.

Approx. position : Lat. 5° 04′ 30″ N., long., 100° 15′ 30″ E.
