BOROUGH OF MAORI HILL.
Notice is hereby given that at a poll taken on the 8th day of October instant, on the proposal of the Council of the said borough—
To raise a special loan of £150 for improvements to the streets in the Township of Woodend, in the Borough of Maori Hill. The security of the said loan to be the amount to be produced by an annually recurring special rate of not more than ½d. in the pound on the unimproved value of the rateable property in West Ward of the said borough. The said loan to be repayable at the expiration of not more than forty-one years from the date of the raising of the said loan, and to be raised by the issue of debentures under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901”—
the following votes were recorded: For the proposal, 45 votes; against the proposal, 8 votes; majority for the proposal, 37 votes.
There being a majority of votes polled in favour of the proposal, I hereby declare the proposal to be carried.

“THE SOLOMONS (CUSTOMS) REGULATION, 1907.”
By His Excellency Sir EVERARD FERDINAND IM THURN, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, His Britannic Majesty’s High Commissioner for the Western Pacific.
EVERARD IM THURN.
In virtue of the powers vested in me by “The Solomons (Customs) Regulation, 1907,” section 77, subsections (2), (4), and (1), (d). I hereby order and proclaim that on and after the 15th day of September, 1907,—
(1.) Gavatu, as declared by section 2 of the regulation aforesaid, shall cease to be a port of entry, and Tulagi shall be a port of entry, within the meaning of the aforesaid regulation ;
(2.) A Government bonded warehouse shall be established at Tulagi for the reception and securing of dutiable goods; and
(3.) The following duties and fees shall be paid in respect of dutiable goods landed and stored at such port of entry as aforesaid:—
(a.) Threepence for each packet landed and delivered at the Customhouse; and
(b.) One penny per packet for each week that any such packet shall be stored in the Government bonded warehouse.

With reference to Notice to Mariners No. 8 of 1907, issued by this Department, notice is hereby given that Captain Hardy, R.N., of H.M.S. “Fantome,” reports the position of Merkara Shoal to be lat. 10° 30′ 10″ S., long. 141° 12′ 24″ E.
Least water: Three (3) fathoms L.W.O.S. This shoal is about three (3) cables in extent.

WESTPORT HARBOUR.—NEW WHARF LIGHT.

THE Westport Harbour Board have notified that on and after the 1st November, 1907, a green light will be shown from the seaward end of Crane Wharf, so as to indicate the position of this wharf to masters of vessels when entering the port.
