Notice of Request to amend Specification.
Patent Office,
Wellington, 24th July, 1907.
A REQUEST for leave to amend the specification relating to the undermentioned application has been received, and is open to public inspection at this office. Any person may, at any time from one month from the date of this Gazette, give me notice in writing of opposition to the amendments. Such notice must set forth the particular grounds of objection, and be in duplicate. A fee of 10s. is payable thereon.
No. 20583.—E. Phillips, ore-treatment. (H. F. Brown.) (Advertised in Supplement to New Zealand Gazette, No. 19, of the 8th March, 1906.)
The nature of the proposed amendment is as follows:—
To strike out the whole of the claims, Nos. 1 to 5 inclusive, and to insert instead the following claims:—
(1.) A method of treating ores, consisting of showering a finely divided dehydrated ore down a stack, and subjecting it whilst in atmospheric suspension to a whirling and agglomerating highly heated atmosphere; then discharging the particles of material in approximate physical contact in the form of a vortex into a reverberatory-chamber extension, said reverberatory-chamber extension communicating with a reverberatory chamber wherein the unvolatilised molten-metal constituent of the ore is caused to separate by gravity from the slag-producing constituent beneath a covering of molten slag, substantially as described. (2.) A method of treating finely divided dehydrated sulphide ores according to claiming clause 1, characterized by employing, as the highly heated atmosphere supplied to the stack, an oxidizing atmosphere, substantially as described. (3.) A method of treating certain finely divided dehydrated sulphide ores according to claiming clause 1, characterized by subjecting the ore first to an oxidizing atmosphere, and then to a reducing atmosphere while descending through the stack, substantially as described. (4.) A method of treating ores, consisting of showering a finely divided dehydrated ore down a vertical stack, and subjecting it whilst in atmospheric suspension to a whirling and agglomerating highly heated atmosphere, introduced by a tangential burner or burners within eccentric combustion chamber or chambers, then discharging the particles of material in approximate physical contact in the form of a vortex through a heat-concentrating chamber into a reverberatory-chamber extension, from which chamber-extension the highly heated atmosphere descending through the stack with the ore passes, beneath an arch, into a reverberatory chamber, wherein it expands and mingles over said covering of molten slag, substantially as described.
The applicant states,—
“My reasons for making this amendment are as follows: To more clearly define the novel features of the invention, and to limit the scope of the claims to the novel features of the invention, in view of the state of knowledge of the art.”
J. C. LEWIS,
Registrar.
