HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve, under clause 50, “The Defence Act, 1886,” of the dismissal from the New Zealand Volunteer Force of No. 140, Private Sydney Anderson, Bay of Islands Mounted Rifle Volunteers, he having been convicted by the civil authorities for theft. Dismissal to date from 6th June, 1907.

This day the Honourable Sir Joseph George Ward, K.C.M.G., the Honourable Leander Starr Jameson, C.B., M.D., the Honourable Frederick Robert Moor, and General the Honourable Louis Botha, were, by His Majesty’s command, respectively sworn of His Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council, and took their places at the Board accordingly.

Notice respecting Proposed Alteration in the Boundaries of the Borough of Maori Hill.

PURSUANT to section 176 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” His Excellency the Governor directs it to be notified that a petition in accordance with regulations, signed by not less than one-fourth of the electors of the North Ward of the Borough of Maori Hill described in the Schedule hereto, has been presented to him, praying that the area comprised in the said ward may be excluded from the Borough of Maori Hill and included in the County of Waikouaiti. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed alteration within one month from the first publication of this notice. Such objections or petitions are to be addressed and forwarded to the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.


SCHEDULE.

AREA PROPOSED TO BE EXCLUDED FROM THE BOROUGH OF MAORI HILL AND INCLUDED IN COUNTY OF WAIKOUAITI.

All that area in the Otago Land District bounded towards the north by a right line running due east from Swampy Hill to the north-eastern corner of Section No. 72, Block VIII, North Harbour and Blueskin District; thence towards the east by the eastern boundary of the said Section No. 72 to the northernmost corner of Section No. 55; thence towards the south-east generally by Sections Nos. 55 and 58, a road-line, Sections Nos. 35, 8, and 7, a road-line, Sections Nos. 5, 6, 14, 17, and 10, a road-line, Sections Nos. 9, 50, 15, 13, and 12, Block VIII aforesaid, and a road-line to the northernmost corner of Section No. 68, Block XI, North Harbour and Blueskin District; thence by the last-mentioned section, a road-line, and Original Sections Nos. 70 and 72 to the Water of Leith; thence by the Water of Leith and a road-line to the northernmost corner of Section No. 74, Block XI aforesaid; thence by the last-mentioned section to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Original Section No. 47, Block V, Dunedin and East Taieri District; thence towards the west generally by a right line across a road to the south-eastern corner of the last-mentioned section; and thence by Sections Nos. 47, 45, 53, 54, 55, a road-line, and Sections Nos. 9, 10, 11, a road-line, and Section No. 3, Block V aforesaid, to Swampy Hill, the place of commencement.

Special Orders made by the Council of the County of Piako.

THE following special orders, made by the Piako County Council, are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

Special Order No. 1.

THE Piako County Council, in terms of subsection (3) of section 14 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and as authorised by subsection (3) of section 118 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” doth hereby raise and borrow from the Colonial Treasurer, under Part II of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” a special loan of £1,600 for the purpose of providing the Council’s share of the cost of erecting the Cambridge High-level Bridge, as set forth in the Governor’s Warrant gazetted on page 1194 of the New Zealand Gazette, 1906, the proposed security for which loan shall be a special annual-recurring rate for twenty six years of 5d. per pound upon the capital rateable value of the rateable property in the Piako County, such providing interest at 5 per cent. per annum, which being paid for the period aforesaid pays off the loan and is the provision for repayment thereof, and neither the cost of raising such loan nor the interest for the first year shall be paid thereout.

Special Order No. 2.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and by section 118 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” the Piako County Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £1,600, authorised to be raised by the said Council, under the above-mentioned Acts, from the Colonial Treasurer for a period of twenty-six years at 5 per cent. per annum for the purpose of providing the said Council’s share of the cost of erecting the Cambridge High-level Bridge, as set forth in the Governor’s Warrant gazetted on page 1194 of the New Zealand Gazette, 1906, the said Piako County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 5d. in the pound upon the capital rateable value of all rateable property of the Piako County, comprising all lands within the boundaries thereof as constituted and established by the Counties Acts; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 1st day of April and the 1st day of October in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

I, Thomas Gavin, Chairman of the Piako County Council, do hereby certify that the above special orders (2) were passed at a special meeting of the Piako County Council held on the 20th day of May, 1907, and were duly confirmed at a subsequent meeting of the said Council held on the 24th day of June, 1907.
