Redividing County of Hawera into Ridings, &c., under “The Counties Act, 1886.”

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The Eltham County Act, 1906,” a portion of the County of Hawera was included within the boundaries of the new County of Eltham, and it is therefore expedient to redive the said County of Hawera into fresh ridings, and also to determine the number of Councillors to be elected for each riding, and the date for the election of such Councillors:

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers vested in me by “The Counties Act, 1886,” do hereby redive the said County of Hawera into six ridings, to be called the Kaupokonui Riding, the Waimate Riding, the Hawera Riding, the Ararata Riding, the Mere Mere Riding, and the Mokoia Riding; and do hereby declare that the boundaries of the said ridings shall be those set forth under the names of the said ridings respectively in the Schedule hereto, and that the number of Councillors to be elected for such ridings shall be as follows—for the Kaupokonui Riding, one Councillor; for the Waimate Riding, two Councillors; for the Hawera Riding, two Councillors; for the Ararata Riding, two Councillors; for the Mere Mere Riding, one Councillor; and for the Mokoia Riding, one Councillor; and I do further declare that Friday, the fifteenth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and seven, shall be the day upon which the election of Councillors for the said Kaupokonui, Waimate, Hawera, Ararata, Mere Mere, and Mokoia Ridings shall be held.

SCHEDULE.

KAUPOKONUI RIDING.

Bounded on the north by the northern boundary of Block XIII, Kaupokonui Survey District, from the centre of the Oeo Road to the north-west corner of Block XIV, Kaupokonui Survey District; thence by the northern boundaries of Block XIV and XV, Kaupokonui Survey District, to a point in the centre of the Palmer Road: on the east by the centre of the Palmer Road from the north-eastern to the south-eastern corner of Block XV, Kaupokonui: on the south by the southern boundaries of Block XV, XIV, and part of XIII, Kaupokonui Survey District, to the centre of the Oeo Road: on the west by the Egmont County.

WAIMATE RIDING.

Bounded on the north by the Kaupokonui Riding hereinbefore described: on the east by the centre of the Palmer Road to its junction with the Tempsky Road; thence by the eastern boundary of Blocks III and VII, Waimate Survey District, to the Tasman Sea: on the south by the Tasman Sea: on the west by the Egmont County.

HAWERA RIDING.

Bounded on the north by the centre of the Skeet Road from the centre of the Palmer Road to the middle of the Waingongoro River; thence by the middle of the Waingongoro River to the centre of the Onewhaia Road; thence by the centre of the Onewhaia Road to the existing railway-line between Hawera and Eltham: on the east by the said railway-line to the Borough of Hawera; thence by the said Borough of Hawera to a point in the centre of the Tawhiti Road; thence by the centre of the Tawhiti Road to the Tasman sea: on the south by the Tasman Sea: on the west by the Waimate Riding hereinbefore described, and by the centre of the Palmer Road from the south-eastern corner of Block XV, Kaupokonui Survey District, to the centre of Skeet Road.

ARARATA RIDING.

Bounded on the north-west generally by the Eltham County: on the east by the middle of the Patea River and by a line therefrom and along the western boundary of Section 5, Block I, Opaku Survey District, to the centre of the Pukekino Road; thence by the centre of the Pukekino Road to the centre of the Tangahoe Valley Road; on the south-east generally by the centre of the Tangahoe Valley Road to its intersection with the Tangahoe Stream; thence by the centre of the Tangahoe Stream to the centre of the Ohangai Road; thence by the centre of the Ohangai Road to the centre of the Tawhiti Road; thence by the centre of the Tawhiti Road to the Hawera Borough boundary: on the west by the existing railway-line between Hawera and Eltham.

MERE MERE RIDING.

Bounded on the north by the Eltham County: on the east and south-east by the Patea County to the Tarere Trig. Station; thence by the centre of the Tarere Road to the centre of the Ingahape Road; thence by the centre of the Ingahape Road to the north-eastern corner of Section 22, Block XII, Hawera Survey District: on the south by the northern boundaries of Blocks XII and XI, Hawera Survey District, to the centre of the Makowhai Road; thence by the centre of the said Makowhai Road to the centre of the Whareroa Road; thence by the centre of the Whareroa Road to its junction with High Road; thence by the centre of High Road to the Hawera Borough boundary; thence by the Hawera Borough boundary to the centre of the Tawhiti Road: on the north-west by the Ararata Riding hereinbefore described.

MOKOIA RIDING.

Bounded on the north by the Mere Mere Riding hereinbefore described: on the east and south-east by the Patea County: on the south-west by the Tasman Sea: on the west by the Hawera Riding hereinbefore described, and by the Hawera Borough.

Exempting Victoria and Albert Avenues from the Provisions of Section 117 of “The Public Works Act, 1905.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Christchurch, this sixth day of November, 1906.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by subsection one of section one hundred and seventeen of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” it is, inter alia, provided that the said section shall not apply in any case where the local authority having control of a road or street by resolution declares that the provisions thereof shall not apply to any specified road or street, or any specified part thereof, and such resolution is approved by the Governor in Council:

And whereas the Mount Albert Road Board, the local authority having control of the streets described in the Schedule hereto, did by resolution declare that the provisions of section one hundred and seventeen of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” should not apply to the said streets: And whereas such resolution was in the following terms: “That section one hundred and seventeen, subsection one, of 'The Public Works Act, 1905,' shall not apply either to Victoria Avenue or Albert Avenue, two streets in the Mount Albert Road District, each being about fifty feet in width, being part of Lots 7, 8, and 9 of subdivision of Allotments 38 and 39, Parish of Titirangi, dedicated to public purposes as public highways by deed dated the third day of October, one thousand eight hundred
