The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

† Populations of Wellington, Onslow, and Christchurch given according to alterations of boundaries since January.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 582, against 541 in March—an increase of 41. The deaths in April were 239, an increase of 5 on the number in March. Of the total deaths, males contributed 122, females 117. Eighty-five of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 35·56 per cent. of the whole number; 74 of these were under one year of age.

There were sixty-four deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Eight men, 65, 69, 70, 74, 76, 86 (three), and eight women, 70 (two), 74, 75 (two), 79, 82, 84, died at Auckland; six men, 66, 69, 72, 74, 82, 88, and seven women, 67, 69, 70, 75, 82, 85, 88, at Wellington; four men, 75 (two), 80, 88, and eleven women, 65 (two), 66, 68, 70, 71, 72 (two), 75, 78, 81, at Christchurch; and eight men, 66, 67, 68, 70, 73 (two), 83, 88, and twelve women, 65, 68, 69, 71 (two), 73, 74, 75, 77, 79, 88, 84, at Dunedin.

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and upwards, and the Proportion per Cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs above given, registered during the Month of April, 1907.
